| This 2-year CIDA-sponsored initiative (April 2007 to 2009) aims to empower students to be aware of, and involved in, the developmental issues Canada supports and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Specifically, it focuses on the HIV/AIDS pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa and its effect on women. |

| Vanier's second 2-year CIDA sponsored project (April 2009 - 2011) focuses on the need for universal primary education in sub-Saharan Africa with particular emphasis on the inaccessibility of education for girls. Students will comprehend the need to reinforce and offer sustained support for Canada’s role in attaining this MDG. |
