The Institutional and Pedagogical Development and Research (IPDR) Office, as part of the Academic Office, is responsible for institutional research, and provides leadership and support for maintaining academic program quality, strategic planning, and college research initiatives.
The Institutional and Pedagogical Development and Research Office was established in 2008 as another initiative aimed at improving student success. Vanier College’s mission, values and priorities of the Vanier College Strategic Plan and Student Success Plan guide the office’s actions. Specifically, the office was mandated to provide support for ongoing improvement of educational programs, institutional research, strategic planning, and college research initiatives.
Academic Program Improvement
The Institutional and Pedagogical Development and Research Office provides leadership and support for the academic program development processes by assisting and supporting academic program management activities including ongoing and formal evaluation, strategic planning activities, curriculum development, work plan development and implementation.
The Institutional and Pedagogical Development and Research Office uses the mission statement of the college and the associated goals and objectives of its Strategic and Student Success Plans as the basis for institutional research and evaluation activities. Institutional Research provides data, data analyses, reports, and other information to assist with effective and informed decision-making across the academic sector of the College. All institutional research activities are conducted with the goal of supplying objective data to the key decision makers of the college.
The Institutional and Pedagogical Development and Research Office provides support for the strategic planning processes of the College with a focus on the Student Success Plan and relevant portions of the Strategic Plan. Vanier College’s Student Success Plan in combination with the associated Academic Program Work Plans serve as the guiding documents for most of the office’s research and assessment functions. The Institutional Development and Research Office is responsible for providing data related to the objectives of the Student Success Plan and Academic Program Work Plans, and reporting that progress to the Academic Dean, Faculty Deans and Academic Program Committees on an annual basis.
College Research Initiatives
The Institutional and Pedagogical Development and Research Office is also responsible for all research activities conducted at the college or conducted by staff affiliated with the college. The office coordinates and supports the Vanier College Research Ethics Board, provides grant information to the college community, assists with grant proposal development as required, and coordinates the administration of funded research activities.
