About Us

Honours Science is enriched both in and out of the classroom and is for highly talented and motivated students with a keen interest in science. There is a particular emphasis placed on Excellence, Leadership and Teamwork: Honours Science students strive to be Science Leaders in our communities. During the program, students prepare for further studies and careers in all branches of science with a committed team of enthusiastic instructors.

In addition, students are offered many opportunities to develop leadership, academic success and a mature global outlook, through peer tutoring, science projects, university visits and class trips to Ottawa, New York City and more. These extra-curricular educational and social activities build a strong group-dynamic, which facilitates study groups and life-long friendships. Some of these activities can also be recognized on the offi cial transcript through the Vanier STAR initiative.

Honours Science students take all their compulsory mathematics and science courses as a group. Because of the close collaboration between instructors, content in Honours Science sections is integrated between subjects so that repetition is avoided. This efficiency frees up class time to allow for further enrichment of the material. Students are also encouraged to diversify their interests by selecting three science option courses during their second year.

Students interested in Honours Science must apply to Vanier’s Health Science 200.B0 or Pure and Applied Science 200.B0 programs. Applicants in either of these programs who have at least 80% in each of their Secondary 4 and 5 mathematics and science courses, as well as having an overall average of over 80% are invited to apply to Honours Science.
