First French Course (Block "A")

After passing the first French course, each student will be assigned a second course according to his or her level of proficiency and program of studies. This second course is meant to consolidate and enrich the competencies developed in the first course and complement them with course content relevant to a particular program or to a group of programs of study.

Second French Course (Block "B")

French As A Specialization

Students in the Office Systems Technology: Micro publishing and Hypermedia must take specific French courses as "concentration" or "specialization" courses. Charts are provided in the Registration Guide that show which sequence of courses a student must take in accordance with his or her entry level of proficiency. Students in the Languages & Literature Program, and students in the Communications: Arts, Media & Theatre Program may also take French courses as a specialization, as well as other Modern Languages. Please consult the French Department. Students under the new regime of studies cannot take French as complementary courses.

Intensive Intersession Courses

Intensive intersession courses are given over a period of three weeks (13 working days) for three hours each day in May-June. They are part of the regular semester. They are a good way of making up for a course. There is no extra fee. To see the present course list, visit the Master Schedule.

Non-Credit Courses

  • 602-011-50 Initiation au Français, langue seconde
  • 602-005-50 Pratique du français, langue seconde, à l'oral et à l'écrit pour les élèves non francophones
  • 602-009-50 Renforcement en Français, langue seconde

Non-Credit Courses are not offered as regular day-credit courses. Students at this level will have to take courses offered in Continuing Education in order to build up their level of competency and begin to take French "A" as soon as possible, preferably during their first semester. Non-Credit Courses are often offered as double courses, in order to accelerate the process, on Saturdays. Students in this situation should consult an Academic Advisor during Registration.
