Vanier College Choir

Founded in 1971 by Jean Sult and currently directed by Erica Phare, the Vanier College Choir offers its students and its staff the opportunity to perform choral works of varying styles in a large ensemble setting. Despite its large annual turnover, the choir has participated in a number of major musical events including performances at the 1978 ISME conference, the 1979 Canadian Music Educators’ Conference and at the 1980 International Eiseddford of Wales. The ensemble has frequently been heard on CBC Radio.

Averaging 80 voices, this mixed choir has performed such works as Mozart’s Mass in C Minor (2005), Menotti’s one-act opera Amahl and the Night Visitors (2002), Mozart’s Requiem (2003), Brahms’s EinDeutsches Requiem (2006), Bach’s Magnificat (2004).

In 2003, the choir won first place in the Advanced Adult Choir category at Montreal’s ARCIM Festival.

On May 4, 2008, the choir will join forces with Concerto Della Donna, the McGill Conservatory Youth Choir, the Choeur d’enfants de Montréal and the Amati Orchestra to perform Ruth Fazal’s, Oratorio Terezin, a powerful work based on text from the Holocaust and the Hebrew Scriptures. A Montreal premiere, the oratorio will be directed by Maestro Iwan Edwards in Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier and will involve 270 performers. Click here to read more about this upcoming event.
