Orchestre Symphonique Joseph-François-Perrault
École secondaire Joseph-François-Perrault was founded in 1966 but only began offering a music concentration program in the late seventies. Situated in the St-Michel district, École Joseph-François-Perrault currently has an enrollment of over 750 students registered in music concentration and in music as an option. Teaching is offered on string, wind and percussion instruments. These instruments, as well as musical scores, are generously loaned to the students. The school has had a formal partnership with the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal since 1981, and has more recently formalized partnerships with Cégep St. Laurent and Vanier College. The school’s major ensembles have won prizes, recorded CDs,and have been the subject of a major TV documentary. They have also performed in major concert halls across the province, and since 1990 the JFP Symphony Orchestra has toured on a regular basis in Europe in such countries as France, Italy, Switzerland and Spain.
