On Friday, January 24, 2014 Vanier Russian Program students were invited to attend the celebration of Russian Students Day at the Embassy of Russian Federation in Ottawa.
The students had a chance to be exposed to an important event of International politics, as well as Canadian history. On the occasion of the Students Day Russian Federation awarded former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien with the Order of Friendship and our students had a chance to meet the legendary politician, to socialize with him and with the Russian ambassador Georgiy Mamedov, as well as with other Canadian and Quebec politicians and business people, students and professors from Ottawa, Toronto and all over Canada.
The organization of the trip, including the transportation was excellent. As a coordinator of East European and Slavic Studies Major and teacher of Russian I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to the Dean of Social Science, Commerce, Arts and Letters Odette Côté, to the Dean’s office staff – Nora Soukiassian and Ivanka Hillel, to Fiorella De Luca Calce in purchasing for their support and accommodation of the students who are interested in international affairs. This was an event of educational value and our students benefited from participating in it.
