A. Definitions

  • Full-Time ECE student

An ECE student who is registered for a minimum of 180 hours, or four courses, in the ECE program per semester.

  • Part-Time ECE student

An ECE student who is registered for less than 180 hours of courses in the ECE program per semester.

  • Good Academic Standing in the College

Each semester, a full-time ECE student must pass more than 50% of the courses in which they are registered to remain in Good Academic Standing. As an example, if a student is registered in four courses, they must pass at least three courses.

  • Additional Requirements in the Program

To remain in Good Academic Standing in the College, an ECE student must meet the Additional Requirements contained in this document.

  • Academic Probation

The status given to a student who does not meet the criteria for Good Academic Standing in the College in any one semester.

  • Probation Contract

The contract that a student with first-time Academic Probation status must sign in order to be eligible for full-time studies.

  • Letter of Suspension

The written letter transmitted to a student who has:
    • failed to achieve Good Academic Standing in the College, or
    • failed to meet the requirements of the Probation Contract, or
    • failed to meet one or more of the Additional Requirements.

  • Request for Reinstatement Form

The form to be completed by a student who is suspended from the ECE Attestation Program. A student who is suspended from the program must wait a minimum of one full year before being considered for readmission into the ECE program.

B. Additional Requirements for the ECE Program

Academic Requirements

A student must remain in Good Academic Standing to remain in the ECE program. This means:

  • A student cannot fail three (3) courses in the program.
  • A student cannot fail the same course twice in the program.

A student who is not in Good Academic Standing will receive a Letter of Suspension and be removed from the ECE program. The student must wait a minimum of one full year before they can request to be readmitted into the program. To be considered for re-admittance, the Request for Reinstatement Form must be completed by the student and they must clearly state why they feel they should be allowed to re-enter the program. This request is reviewed by Continuing Education and the decision will be based on the assessment of each individual case.

Program Requirements

To remain in the ECE Program, a student:

  • Must pass a Police Check, and
  • Must comply with the College Immunization requirements.

Attendance Requirements

Since academic success is closely related to attendance in courses and keeping up with all the assigned course work, all students are expected to attend every class in each course they are registered in, in any given semester. Also, since many courses have marks for class participation, it is in your best interest to attend and participate in each and every class.
