Montreal, February 23, 2010. Among Quebec Anglophone Cegeps and among all cegeps in Montreal, Vanier College Nursing ranked first when it obtained the highest success rate of its graduates at the annual professional exams of the Quebec Order of Nurses (Ordre des infirmiers et infirmières du Québec), written in September 2009. With a success rate of 88.2%, Vanier ranked ahead of the provincial success rate of 82.4% for students writing the exam for the first time, and placed eighth overall in the province among all graduates of Cegep and university Nursing programs. In all thirty-four students graduated from the Vanier Nursing program in 2009.
Without question Vanier produces excellent nurses. 2009 Nursing graduate Tiffany Pontes was one of the lucky few awarded a 2009-2010 scholarship from the Ordre régional des infirmières et infirmiers de Montréal/Laval (ORIIML). The order awards eleven scholarships annually to students pursuing a Bachelor of Nursing degree.
The Vanier Nursing Program, designed for both men and women, provides the foundation to practice nursing immediately upon graduation or alternatively, to go on to the Integrated Nursing Program at McGill University leading to a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing after two years.
Vanier College offers the Extended Nursing Program option for those who wish to extend the regular 3-year Nursing Program to four years. The college collaborates with local hospitals offering Externship programs, potentially providing summer employment for nurses in training.
