presents award to David Zilberman |
"The choices for this year's athlete
of the year are abundant. Take a look at the cover of tonight's
program and you will get a look at the type of candidates that
the committee had to choose from. Literally every single team
had deserving players who were considered for this award, some
are two sport athletes who excelled on both teams and still managed
to do well academically.
There is one among you who rises to the
top though. He has been a Vanier student for two years and has
become a fixture in the Sports Complex, quietly going about his
business, becoming an elite athlete in a very tough sport. It
is physically gruelling as well difficult because it |
|
doesn't receive the recognition that some
of the other sports enjoy. This particular athlete was instrumental
in bringing a team Provincial Championship to Vanier this year
as well as becoming the Canadian Champion for the fourth year
in a row. At this year's Canadian Championship he was named the
MVP of the Nationals in the 18-20 year old category.
He went to seven meets this year - 4 at
Universities and 3 at Ontario High Schools - and won them all
convincingly. He has been selected to represent Canada at the
Maccabia Games and was awarded the Bob McLeod scholarship as
the Outstanding Junior Wrestler from the Canadian Wrestling Federation.
He can now add Vanier College Athlete of
the Year to his long list of impressive accomplishments for 2002
- Congratulations to DAVID ZILBERMAN." (As presented by
Athletic Coordinator Linda Macpherson)
