The Vanier College Learning Centre,
in conjunction with the St. Laurent- based company Wrebbit Inc.
and the Quebec Ministry of Education, held a challenging 3D puzzle
contest on April 21, 1999.
Ten teams of students competed with each other to rebuild - in
puzzle form - Jacques Villeneuve's Formula 1 racing car. Each
team had been previously given 30 minutes "prep" time
to strategize and begin to plan their building efforts.
On the contest day, all the teams
assembled in Vanier's new Student Mall and the signal to start
was given. Excitement mounted as teams focused their attention,
assembled different sections of the car, and then added the final
puzzle pieces.
First place winners Chris
Watson, Timothy Tabing, Coleman Benson, and Prashant Shandilya took only 55 minutes to complete their car.
The second place team of James
Britton, Kris Brunner, Giovanni Calvi, and Fabio Bandera were right behind with 64 minutes.
The winners attributed their success to teamwork - which was
what the contest was all about, as well as getting to meet new
friends. Thanks to Wrebbit Inc., the top two teams each went
home with a Formula 1 puzzle. Watch out next year for a new 3D
puzzle contest!
We now invite you to take a look at some photos taken at the
contest by student photographer Norcello Agtarap.
