The Vanier College Learning Centre celebrated International Literacy Day on September 8th, 1998 with two events: The Gazette Challenge and D.E.A.R. DAY. The Gazette Challenge had students answering questions taken from the newspaper. We thank The Gazette for their support of our program. D.E.A.R. DAY was also part of our International Literacy Day program. Students selected a bestseller, read for an hour and were able to keep their novel. Thanks to Benjamin News for their generous contributions. The Learning Centre by popular demand has once again sponsored a chess tournament with 22 participants. The first round winners are: Gnana Mohan, Jesse Gryn, Michael Tomas, Dexter Magdaluyo, Guillie Tabano, Cong Xie, Lautano Fernandez, Michael Neeposh, Michael Tritt and Chen Chien-Yu. The tournament will continue throughout the semester. However, even when there are no tournaments, students enjoy playing both chess and Chines chess in The Learning Centre. The winners of the final round matches were Lautano Fernandez (first place) and Guillie Tabano (second place). Congratulations!
