MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Once again, the candidates for this year's athlete of the year are outstanding. Nominees include Damian Buckley from Basketball, Tim Wadsworth from Wrestling, Dwayne Buckley from Basketball and Sammy Okpro from Football.

During his career at Vanier College we have watched this young man emerge into one of the top players in the province.

His coach feels however, that he is the most underrated player in the league. He was our captain and led our team in both scoring and rebounding this season, and was probably the best perimeter defender in the league. He became the 4th player in Vanier history to record 1,500 points.

Among his other accomplishments while studying at Vanier College are the following:

· All-Star at the 2002 Sun Youth Holiday Festival Tournament;
· All-Star at the 2003 Edward G. Watkins Tournament in Massachusetts;
· Named Most Outstanding Camper at the 2003 Hoop Mountain Camp in Massachusetts;
· MVP of the 2003 World Hoop Invitational Tournament in Ocala, Florida;
· All-Star at the 2003 Durham College Tip-Off Tournament;
· He has this season's high point total for a single game - 49 points against Champlain-Lennoxville;

It gives me great pleasure to announce that this year's Athlete of the Year for the Vanier College Cheetahs is Dwayne Buckley.
