RON STODDARD of the Men's AAA Basketball Team was named the recipient of the Peter Fox Memorial Award. Peter Fox was a member of the Men's AAA Basketball Team from 1976-78. After graduating from Vanier, Peter met an untimely death. Feeling that his years playing basketball at Vanier were Peter's happiest moments of his short life, his parents set up a scholarship in his name. This $200.00 scholarship is awarded each year to a graduating member of the AAA Basketball Team who best exemplifies the qualities that Peter Fox displayed as a Vanier College Cheetah; hard work, dedication and a solid academic record.
NICK PEREZ was the recipient of the Football Alumni Award. The Alumni Award was donated by former Vanier College football players to recognize a graduating player.
The Female Athlete-of-the-Year was JENNIFER NEILL. Jennifer was an integral part of both the basketball and touch-football teams. Leaving her out of either lineup would leave a huge gap which could not be filled. A leader on the court, field and classroom, Jennifer has distinguished herself in both sports. She placed #14 in basketball league scoring, averaging 12.29 points/game. In addition, she was also the FQSE Academic award winner for the Lady Cheetahs as well as being, the cornerstone of the defence on the touch-football Cheetahs. She will take her fierce competitive spirit to the Concordia University basketball court in the fall.
Male Athlete-of-the-Year was NICK PEREZ. Nick was a captain of the football Cheetahs and has been successful at every level he has played at. Named as a league all-star at the bantam and midget level, he continued the tradition and was named to the Cegep all-star team.A true leader of his teammates, he exemplifies what a Vanier student-athlete should be in the community as well. Nick volunteers as a tutor at a local community center and also helps his teammates with their S.A.T. preparations.
