Dear Alumni & Friends,

All our Vanier basketball teams were in action again this weekend.

Our men’s Division 2 team got things started at home Friday night against Marie-Victorin, taking an early lead and maintaining it throughout the game, which ended in a 90-75 victory.

Our Division 2 teams played a home doubleheader this afternoon (Sunday).

In the first game, our women hosted Trois-Rivieres. We got off to a bad start, trailing 22-11 after the first quarter and 40-17 at halftime. We won the 4thquarter 21-7, but it was too late and we lost the game 67-55. Meagan Charbonneau had a strong game for us with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Nayra Fattah had 11 points, 5 boards, 3 assists and 3 steals. Ekaterina Stoupas had 6 points but was a beast on the boards, snaring 15 rebounds.

In the 2nd half of the doubleheader, our men got off to a strong start against John Abbott, opening up an 11-0 lead to start the game. We led 20-5 when we gave up a last-second 3 to the visitors to narrow the gap to 20-8. The Islanders kept chipping away at our lead, which was only 28-24 at halftime. John Abbott actually took a 1-point lead on 4 occasions in the 3rd quarter, but we ended the period ahead again by 4. We were able to maintain our lead throughout the final period and eventually won 71-62. We were hindered throughout the game by sloppy play and unforced errors. We ended up with 28 turnovers, but were able to overcome them by having an equal number of offensive rebounds. Once again all 10 players who dressed got on the scoreboard.  Our leading scorer was Ibrahim Ngom, who had 17 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Godsman Kwakwah had 11 points and 7 boards. Swann Fargeau Faucion had 10 points and 9 rebounds. Karim Sabban and Arnaud Boyer-Cillis added 8 points each.
