Dorothy was also awarded the Outstanding Female Wrestler for both events! Vanier wrestler Vince De Marinis (at left) made us proud by winning a Gold Medal at the Australian Cup. Congratulations to all the award winners at this year's Athletic Awards Banquet. The top honours went to Nationals Tournament MVP Jerome Blake and to the Lady Cheetahs' Shelby Eveleigh, both from our AAA basketball teams. VANIER WINS TITLE AT MCGILL INTRAMURAL FESTIVAL

After a one year drought, Vanier took back the title of Champions at the 39th Annual McGill Intramural Festival played on April 8th. This is Vanier's third Championship title in four years. All six English Cégeps enjoyed a fun evening of friendly competition in Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton and Dodgeball. AAA MEN WIN GOLD AT NATIONALS!!

The AAA Men's Basketball Cheetahs completed an upset of epic proportions by defeating Lethbridge 102-85 in the finals of the CCAA National Championships played on Saturday night. For a second time in a row, the Vanier Player of the Game was Jerome Blake who scored 32 points and was named Tournament MVP. Congratulations to Coach Hertzog and the entire team! Click for . |

To cap off a tremendously successful championship season, it was no surprise that members of our football team captured the highest number of awards at the league's Awards banquet held on Saturday, December 11th. Besides Jérémi Roch's big win as the league's Player of the Year, no fewer than eight other players won awards along with Peter Chryssomalis and his team who won Coaching Staff of the Year. Our beloved Football Cheetahs won a tight-collar 31-28 victory over our longtime nemesis, the Spartiates of Cégep Vieux-Montréal to reclaim the provincial championship Bol d'Or on Saturday in Lennoxville. Matthew Norzil had 3 receptions for 99 yards, 2 of them for touchdowns. QB Benoit Lacasse threw 4 TD passes and was named Player of the Game. Congratulations to the Football Cheetahs' Defensive Captain Byron Archambault (left) who was the subject of an article by Arpon Basu in the Montreal Gazette of September 1st subsequent to his being named their Amateur Athlete of the Week. In 2008, Byron won the league Rookie of the Year honours and was also second in the league in tackles. Last year, he was again second in the league in tackles and then went on to be named the league's Defensive MVP. Find out .

As assistant therapist for the Als, Max Hanna, Vanier Cheetahs Head Athletic Therapist had 24 hours to show the cup which he did in G-204 on January 12th. Myles Gibbon, (left) our former star Cheetahs quarterback, recently signed a Letter of Intent with the University of South Alabama Jaguars. With his selection, Myles becomes the first Canadian quarterback ever signed by a Division 1-A American university in his first year. Former Vanier athlete Martine Dugrenier won the Gold Medal in the 67KG category at the World Wrestling Championships which concluded in Tokyo, Japan on October 13th. Accompanied by her coach and Vanier teacher Victor Zilberman, Martine overcame all her disappointment at not doing as well as she'd hoped at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Spartiates to hold on for the 21-14 victory.
The win caps a perfect year for the team with
8 wins in the season and two wins in the playoffs.

The
Vanier College Athletics Department announced
last week that former Lady Cheetahs Triple-A
basketball coach Mireille Béland
is the College's new Athletic Co-ordinator.
Béland coached the Lady Cheetahs
from 1992-2002. Mireille
received the Quebec Coach Of The Year
Award in 2000 and also previously won
the Canadian Coach Of The Year
Award in 1998. She replaces Linda Macpherson,
now the manager of Vanier's Sports Complex,
who had shown unswerving dedication serving
as Athletics Co-ordinator since 1995.
We wish both Linda and Mireille success
in their new positions.

basketball team has verbally accepted a full scholarship
offer from Fairleigh Dickenson University in New
Jersey. They are an NCAA Division 1 school which
competes in the Northeast Conference.

Athletics
Awards Banquet, will sign a letter of intent

AAA SOCCER TEAM'S YEAR ENDS WITH HEARTBREAKING SHOOTOUT
LOSS

Despite
goals from Enos Osei and Michael Sciola,
the soccer team lost an OT shootout to Champlain-St.
Lambert on Friday night in the Provincial semi final
at Collège Français in Longueuil.
St. Lambert was up 1-0 when Michael tied it and
2-1 when Enos got the equalizer midway through the
2nd half. When two 15 minute OT periods couldn't
decide the winner, it went to penalty kicks where
the Cheetahs went down 5-4. |

a thrilling come-from-behind victory, The Lady
Basketball Cheetahs won Vanier's first ever
Women's National Basketball Championships, defeating
an extremely tough team from Collège
Édouard-Montpetit 82-80 at McEwan College
in Edmonton Saturday night. Trailing
by 11 points at the half, the Cheetahs, showed
the grit, tenacity and strength of character
that they have all season. They
fought back back to reduce the deficit
to just
4
points by the 3rd quarter and then finally beat
the tenacious Lynx
to earn the national crown.

Chicoutimi and then their fierce league rivals from Montmorency.
In the bronze medal game VS Brébeuf, they won in
the dying seconds thanks to a clutch shot sunk by Saad

College, our AAA Men's team next drew the #1 ranked team
in the country, Cariboo College (who went on to win the
entire tournament) with the result being an 89-58 loss.
Congratulations to Coach Hertzog and all the team for
a great run which of course included winning gold at the
Provincial Championships. Also, the AA Men's team grabbed
bronze in the Regional Championships and now head to the

was selected as "Amateur Athlete of the
Week" by the Gazette and Global TV on December
29th.
He
is a big reason the team closed the year in
first place with a7-1 record and a ranking of

the Canadian senior women's national team that will
compete in a four-city exhibition tour against Japan

Congratulations to Vanier Wrestlers
James Mancini and Tim Wadsworth
for winning gold at the Montreal International
Wresting Tournament held on April 17-18, 2004
here at Vanier College. Serguei Guevorkian
also won a bronze medal. In attendance were
clubs from Ontario, New York and the Maritimes.
Vanier Alumni David Zilberman and Martine
Dugrenier also won gold while Tony Ronei
got a silver. The team is off to New Brunswick
next weekend for the Senior Canadian National
Championship and then they're off to Italy in
May. Good luck wrestlers!

ON AA MEN'S BASKETBALL: AA Basketball
head coach Bengi Vidicek has added Coach
of the Year to go along with the team's other
accomplishments this year including the Regional
Championship and the Fair Play Award
for most sportsmanship as a team. Congratulations
to Bengi and the team!

Vanier wrestlers Jamie Mancini for winning
a gold medal at the Junior Greco Roman National
Championships ( ),
and to Sergui Guevorkian for his silver
medal at the Junior National Wrestling Championships
held recently in Calgary. 
Also,
congratulations go to Tim Wadsworth for
winning a bronze medal at the Acropolis International
Wrestling Tournament in Athens, Greece. Fifteen
countries were competing including Russia, US,
and Iran.

Buckley was listed in the "Rising Stars"
section: "The
6-foot-2 guard became the first Vanier College
player to be named an All-Canadian for two straight
years by the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association.
He also was named the Quebec league's outstanding
player and is the province's nominee for the
CCAA player-of-the-year award." Way to
