Here is an update from Coach Andrew Hertzog

Our men’s Division 2 basketball team travelled to Chicoutimi this weekend for the Provincial championships. They lost their first game to Jonquiere 85-78, then beat Ste-Foy 92-85 in overtime and then finished their season with a 98-85 loss to Montmorency.

Last Friday I took 3 of our Division 1 players (Jahfari Coulombe, Benji Bercovitch, Swann Fargeau Faucon) to Toronto to see the Raptors take on the Indiana Pacers. Before the game we had lunch with alum Nick Katerinakis, the donor of our annual Cheetah Leadership scholarships, and then we were treated to a backstage tour and courtside view of the pre-game warmup by the Voice of the Raptors, Herbie Kuhn, another Vanier alum who is the Raptors stadium announcer (photos attached).  Herbie’s son Enhle is the Ontario 9 year-old all-round gymnastics champion

Thanks to Keith Coffin, who hosted a Final Four party for the men’s and women’s Division 1 basketball teams Saturday night. Keith was of course a tremendous host and a great time was had by all.

We recently got some great news about some of the recruits our Division 1 men’s team has signed for next year. Two of our recruits, Pier-Olivier Racine and Haris Elezovic, were each named MVP of their respective high school leagues, and Nginyu Ngala was a 1st team all-star. Haris, along with 1 of our other recruits, Khalifa Koulamallah and Karim Mané, are expected to be on the Quebec Provincial U17 team this summer competing in the Canada Games.

Finally, I want to remind everyone that our annual post-season open gym scrimmages begin this week, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday nights, at 6:00 PM. You are all welcome to come and play.
