DIV. 1 LADY CHEETAHS
In the first game, our women started off strong and took a 23-12 lead after the first quarter. Champlain narrowed the gap a bit in the 2nd quarter, but we still led 34-26 at halftime.
Champlain actually took a 5-point lead in the 3rd quarter, but we re-established control and led 53-47 going into the final period. We started off strong in the 4th and put the game away by a final score of 80-65.
We had 5 women score in double figures, with Frederique Potvin leading the way with 20 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. Zineb Selham had 16 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
Catherine Couillard had 13 points and 4 boards. Emily Prevost had her usual “double double” with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Janie Vigneault added 10 points and 6 boards.
DIV. 1 MEN'S CHEETAHS
The second half of the doubleheader, featuring our men’s Division 1 team, was a hotly contested affair.
After falling behind 7-2 to start the game, we rallied to take a 21-17 lead after the 1st quarter. Champlain came back and tied the game at 40 at the half. We re-established our advantage in the 3rd quarter and led 59-54 going into the final period.
In he 4th quarter, we kept taking the lead and our visitors kept coming back. We led by as many as 8, but Champlain had a 75-74 advantage with under 30 seconds left. Justin Kinnear was fouled and made 1 of 2 foul shots to tie the game.
We then got a defensive stop, and Jhony Verrone hit a dagger 3 to give us a 78-75 lead. We got another stop, and then they had to foul us. We made 3 more foul shots and won by a final margin of 81-75.
We had a balanced scoring attack with 5 players scoring in double figures. Greishe Clerjuste was our leading scorer with 19 points, and he added 4 assists and 2 steals. Jhony Verrone had 15 points.
Tevonn Walker had 11 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Shawn Thelwell had 10 points and 7 rebounds. Abdul Kamane added 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.
