DIVISION 1 MEN'S FOOTBALL
Our Football Cheetahs are headed for the Bol d'Or next Saturday in Québec City after defeating the Montmorency Nomades 44-14 in the league semi-finals held on Saturday afternoon at our Concordia University home field.
The Cheetahs finished the regular season with a 9-1 record and they are now looking to win their fourth Bol d'Or title in the past seven years.
On Saturday, the Nomades struck first to take a 7-0 lead but Cheetahs QB Hugo Richard replied with a 2-yd TD run to even the score. After Hugo Richard scored an identicle 2-yd TD run early in the 2nd quarter to gives us the lead, Nomades QB Benoît Lacasse threw a TD pass to make the score 15-14 for Vanier. However, that was as close as they would come. From there on, it was all Cheetahs as the team scored 29 more unanswered points for the solid 44-14 victory.
Vanier pivot Hugo Richard had an awesome game, completing 21 of 32 pass attempts for 377 yards and 1 TD. He also led Cheetah rushers with 19 carries for 129 yards and a whopping 4 TDs. Our leading pass receivers were Étienne Moisan who had 5 catches for 144 yards and 1 TD and Alexandre Savard, who also had a great game with 3 catches for 83 yards including a long one of 66 yards.
The Vanier defense did a great job of stymying the Nomades offence. Éric Graccioppo had 7.5 tackles including two for a loss. Jean-Gabriel Poulin was credited with 6.5 tackles, 5 unassisted and 3 assisted. Kicker Alex Vilera was super solid again averaging 48 yards per kickoff. He was good for 6 of 6 converts and also scored two singles.
The Cheetahs will now face the Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars on Saturday, November 17th in the Bol d'Or at Saint-Jean-Eudes in Québec City starting at 1:00 PM. If you can attend, here is a Google Maps link to the Bol d'Or locale.
