DIVISION 1 MEN REBOUND WITH ROAD WIN OVER MONTMORENCY
LADIES LOSE 1ST HALF OF MOMO DOUBLEHEADER / DIV.2 MEN SPLIT TWO GAMES
February 6, 2012

It was a weekend of mixed results for our three Vanier basketball teams, which went a combined 2-2.

DIVISION 1 WOMEN

Our Division 1 (AAA) teams played a doubleheader on the road at Montmorency Friday night. The first game, featuring 2 of the top women’s teams in Quebec and Canada, was a real nail-biter.

We trailed 13-8 after the first quarter and 25-21 at the half. We rallied in the 3rd quarter, and the game was tied at 38 going into the final period. We were down 1 point with a final possession, but could not score, and eventually lost 55-54.

Our leading scorer was Emily Prévost, who had 11 points and added 5 rebounds. Shabeka Taylor and Frédérique Potvin added 10 points each. Kennisha Luberisse chipped in with 7 points and 8 boards.

Our women’s team now has a league record of 11-3.

DIVISION 1 MEN

The 2nd half of the doubleheader was not quite so close. Our men’s Division 1 team rebounded from a loss last week with a 88-57 victory over Montmorency.

The game was close for the 1st quarter after which we led only 16-13. We put some distance between us and our opponents in the 2nd period, and led 41-24 at halftime. The Nomades cut the deficit to 11 in the 3rd quarter, but we took control again and re-established our 17-point margin going into the 4th. We went on a 19-2 run at the beginning of the 4th quarter to put the game away.

Our leading scorers were Jhony Verrone and Ben Millaud-Meunier with 17 points each. Ben added 4 assists and 8 steals. Malcolm Henderson had a “double double” with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Greishe Clerjuste had 13 points and 8 rebounds. Tevonn Walker chipped in with 10 points. Our men’s team’s league record moves to 9-2.
