DIVISION 1 TEAMS SPLIT GAMES AT HOME ON FRIDAY
DIV. 2 MEN IMPROVE TO 8-2 WITH HOME WIN OVER HERITAGE
January 30, 2012

All 3 of our Vanier basketball teams were in action this weekend. We had mixed success, with our teams going 2-1.

DIVISION 1 WOMEN

Our women got things off to a good start Friday night, when they hosted Nouvelles-Frontieres. The game was close for awhile – we led only 16-12 after the first quarter and 37-26 at halftime, but we had a dominating 3rd quarter, outscoring our guests 21-5, and then we coasted to a 77-36 victory. Our defence was tremendous in the 2nd half as we only allowed 10 points by our opponents.

Frédérique Potvin had a tremndous all-round game with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Emily Prévost had yet another 'double double' with 12 points and 10 boards. Kennisha Luberisse had 14 points and 7 rebounds. Shabeka Taylor chipped in with 9 points and 6 rebounds.

Our women's team ran their record to 11-2 with the win, and they are tied for 2nd place in the league. They next play in a road doubleheader at Montmorency this Friday evening at 7:00 PM. The Division 1 Men follow with their match at 9:00 PM.

DIVISION 1 MEN

In the 2nd half of the doubleheader, our men's division 1 team was not as successful in its game against Ahuntsic. We fell behind 9-4 at the start, rallied to take a 10-9 lead, and then finally trailed 18-16 after the first quarter.

The 2nd quarter went back and forth, but we trailed again, 41-38, at halftime. Ahuntsic went on a 22-4 run to start the 3rd quarter, effectively putting the game out of reach. We narrowed the deficit to 12 in the 4th quarter, but could get no closer, and eventually lost 86-68.

Our leading scorer was Greishe Clerjuste, who had 22 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Tevonn Walker had 11 points and 7 boards. We remain in first place with an 8-2 league record, but 3 teams are right behind us at 8-3.

Our division 1 teams are back in action this coming Friday night at Montmorency. The women’s game is at 7:00 PM and the men’s game follows at 9:00.
