DIVISION 2 MEN'S BASKETBALL

Our men’s Division 2 team ran their league record to 7-2 Thursday night with a 75-72 home victory (their 5th win in a row) against Montmorency in a game that was close throughout.

We started off badly, trailing 10-2, and we trailed 23-17 after the first quarter. We fell behind 28-17 early in the 2nd quarter, but rallied to take a 34-32 lead, but Montmorency came back again and led 40-39 at the half. We still trailed 58-55 going into the 4th quarter, but we finally took the lead and held on for the 3-point victory.

Our leading scorer was Kevin Alcalde with 20 points. Jeremie Mbengo-Diluwa had 18 points and Jeffrey Duah added 13.

Our Division 1 teams hosted Ste-Foy Friday night, and both contests were close and exciting.

DIVISION 1 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

In the first game, our women jumped out to a 12-5 lead, but Ste-Foy responded and narrowed the deficit to 21 to 12-11, and then we pulled away a bit and led 19-13 after the first quarter. We maintained our advantage in the 2nd quarter, and led 31-24 at halftime. We extended our lead to 14 (51-37) after 3 periods, but Ste-Foy came back in the 4th and tied the game at 56 with 37 seconds left. Frédérique Potvin scored on a drive with 30 seconds left to put us up 2, and after a stop, she was fouled with 11 seconds remaining. She made 1 of her 2 free throws to give us a 3-point advantage, and Ste-Foy could not score on its last possession. The final score was 59-56.

Frédérique Potvin was our leading scorer with 20 points, and she added 5 rebounds. Zineb Selham had 11 points and 5 boards. Shabeka Taylor had 10 points and 6 rebounds. Emily Prévost had 6 points, but was a force inside with 10 boards and 2 blocked shots. Our women's team concludes the first half of the season with an 8-2 record.

DIVISION 1 MEN'S BASKETBALL

The second half of the doubleheader was a classic, but unfortunately our men's Division 1 team lost to Ste-Foy 99-94 in triple overtime.

Both teams had trouble scoring in the first quarter, after which we led 8-7. Both sides picked it up a bit in the 2nd quarter, and we trailed 23-21 at the half. The 3rd quarter went back and forth, and Ste-Foy led 48-46 going into the 4th.

They increased their advantage to 54-46 early in the period, but after a time out we rallied to take a 58-56 lead. The rest of the quarter went back and forth, and we trailed by 3 with 4 seconds left, when Ben Millaud-Meunier hit a 3 from way behind NBA 3-point range, to send the game into overtime.

We trailed again by 3 with 7 seconds left in the first overtime period, when Ben was fouled shooting a 3. He made all 3 foul shots to tie the game, and we got a stop, sending the game into a 2nd overtime period.

Once again our visitors had a late 3-point lead, and Ben came through again with another long 3 with 11 seconds left. We got another stop, and we headed into a 3rd overtime period. Unfortunately, we could not close it out. After we took a 94-93 lead, Ste-Foy scored a late basket, and then we were stopped. We had to foul, and Ste-Foy made their last 4 foul shots to seal the win.

Ben Millaud-Meunier was our leading scorer with 30 points, and he added 6 rebounds. Tevonn Walker had 17 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Jhonny Verrone had 13 points, and Jonathan Bermillo added 10 points and 5 boards. Our men's Division 1 team closes out the first half of its league schedule with a 7-1 record.
