Vanier Athletics was extremely pleased to hear that one of our alumni wrestlers, Michael Noonan, has been awarded a Rhodes Scholarship, widely considered the most prestigious scholarship in the world.
Michael wrestled for Vanier in 2006 and 2007 before continuing his studies and wrestling at Concordia University.
Our archives show that while at Vanier, he won a Silver Medal for us at the Guelph University Open of January 2007 and that prior to that, he had won a Gold Medal at the London Ontario Junior Invitational in November 2006.
Although he has yet to complete his BSc in Honours Ecology, Michael has already published an article in the world-renowned journal "Fish and Fisheries".
The Rhodes Scholarship also requires "evidence of physical vitality, leadership, and service, whether in sports, theatre, music or other pursuits" and Michael's winning performance as a wrestler at Vanier and then Concordia certainly fulfilled this requirement. |
