THE VANIER COLLEGE MEN’S AAA FOOTBALL CHEETAHS DROPPED A 29-18 ROAD DECISION TO THE FRANCOIS-XAVIER-GARNEAU ELANS THIS PAST SATURDAY IN QUEBEC CITY. THIS WAS THE CHEETAHS’ SECOND LOSS IN THE PAST THREE GAMES AND DROPS THEIR EARLY SEASON RECORD TO 3-2.
The Cheetahs fell behind early in the first quarter and trailed 17-0 after 15 minutes to play. A safety made the score 19-0 before Joel Brtka hauled in a 44-yard pass from quarterback Hugo Richard with only 47 seconds to remaining in the first half and kicker Josh MacDuffie booted a convert to narrow the gap to 19-7.
A safety and a single by kicker MacDuffie made the score 19-10 in the third frame but F.X. Garneau tallied a late converted touchdown to go ahead by a 26-10 count entering the fourth frame. Adam Bailey hooked up with quarterback Richard on a 12-yard touchdown pass and a two-point convert at 5:45 to allow the Cheetahs to move within 8 points but that was as close as they would get before the Elans rounded out the scoring with a 37-yard field goal with slightly over two minutes to play.
Offensively, the Cheetahs were lead by Hugo Richard, who completed 15 of 26 pass attempts for 247 yards while rushing the ball 8 times for 23 yards.
