QUARTERBACK JEREMI ROCH COMPLETED 22 OF 40 PASS ATTEMPTS FOR 291 YARDS TO LEAD THE VANIER CHEETAHS TO A CONVINCING 26-15 TRIUMPH OVER THE CHAMPLAIN-LENNOXVILLE COUGARS THIS PAST SATURDAY IN SUDDEN-DEATH CEGEP AAA SEMI-FINAL ACTION. THIS SETS UP A DATE WITH LONG-TIME RIVAL THE VIEUX-MONTREAL SPARTIATES, WHO DEFEATED F.X. GARNEAU IN THE OTHER SEMI-FINAL GAME ON THE WEEKEND.
Vanier jumped out to a 6-0 first quarter lead on a pair of
Josh MacDuffie field goals from 22 and 16 yards out and never looked back. After a Cougar field goal narrowed the gap to 6-3 at the one minute mark of the second quarter,
Anthony Thompson returned the ensuing kickoff 101 yards for a touchdown to re-establish the Vanier advantage. Kicker MacDuffie added a convert and then a single later in the period. A safety gave the Cheetahs a 16-6 lead at the half.
The Cougars once again moved to within 3 points after a converted touchdown at 5:23 of the third frame. The Cheetahs then went ahead by 10 points once again as the combination of Jérémi Roch and Matthew Norzil went to work as Norzil hauled in a 17-yard pass for a major. MacDuffie booted the extra point and the Cheetahs were in front 23-13 with 2:25 remaining in the third quarter.
MacDuffie kicked his third field goal of the day 11 seconds in to the fourth period before a late Champlain safety rounded out the scoring in this semi-final tilt.

The Cheetahs were led on the offense by quarterback Jérémi Roch (left) and receivers Vincent Cléroux and Alexandre Piché, who notched 6 catches for 86 yards and 4 receptions for 74 yards respectively. Jesse Lacle paced the Vanier running attack with 13 carries for 43 yards. The Cheetahs defense was anchored once again by Byron Perez-Archambault with 11 tackles and Chris O’Kill with 10 tackles.
The first place Cheetahs will now face the third place Vieux Montréal Spartiates (6-4) this Saturday, November 13, at 1:00 p.m. in Sherbrooke for the provincial championship Bol d'Or. In previous matches this year, the Cheetahs defeated the Spartiates 31-22 on August 28th and 14-9 on October 2nd. MEN'S AND WOMEN'S RUGBY
The Men’s Rugby Cheetahs lost 34-13 to the John Abbott Islander in sudden-death semi-final action this past Sunday. The Lady Rugby Cheetahs also suffered a semi-final loss to John Abbott on Sunday, 20-3.
BASKETBALL NEWS
The Vanier Basketball teams were perfect yet again this past week posting another 5-0 record.

On Thursday night, the Men’s AA Cheetahs outlasted Montmorency 76-60 in a game where they led from start to finish with leads of 15-10 after the first quarter and 37-27 at halftime. Jeffrey Doret topped the home team with 15 points while Julien Quenneville (right) had 13 points and Valensky Alexandre chipped in with 8 points in the win.
On Sunday, the AA squad improved to 3-2 on the season and moved into a first place tie with a hard-fought 65-58 home win over Dawson. This was a see-saw battle that saw the Blues lead 14-13 after the first quarter and 30-28 at half-time. The Cheetahs then went ahead 51-46 after three frames and never looked back. Jeff Doret once again held the hot hand for Vanier with 15 points. Neil Ferguson netted 12 points and Kevin Alcalde had 7 points in the Cheetahs’ third straight win. The AA hoopsters will be at home this coming Friday, November 12th, for an exhibition game against Jean XXIII. Game time is 6:30 p.m. The Cheetahs return to league play next Wednesday, November 17th, when they visit Rosemont (1-1). The tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. |

Shelby Eveleigh: 16 pts |
The first place Women’s AAA Basketball Cheetahs now sport a 5-0 record after a pair of wins this past weekend. On Friday night, they hammered Champlain-St. Lawrence 94-39 at the Vanier College Sports Complex. They held a 24-9 advantage after the first period and 44-18 at half-time.
Shelby Eveleigh (left) led the Vanier scoring parade with 16 points to go along with 5 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Kathryn Eveleigh (right) also had a strong game with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Frédérique Potvin was also a major part of the well-balanced offensive attack with 11 points in this lopsided victory. |

The Lady Cheetahs then completed their undefeated week as they coasted to a 78-54 home win over Sherbrooke on Sunday. Mathilde Larochelle put forth a strong effort with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals as did Shelby Eveleigh with 15 points and 3 steals. Emily Prévost and Mylène Hubert contributed 8 points apiece as the ladies built up a 50-33 lead at the half. The ladies will put their perfect record on the line this Friday when they visit Ste-Foy (3-0) in a battle of undefeated teams. This game will be featured as the nightcap of a double-header with a scheduled start time of 9:00 p.m.

The Men’s AAA Cagers also came out on the winning side with an 81-69 home win over Limoilou last Friday. The Cheetahs were up by scores of 20-17 after the first quarter, 40-33 at the half and 62-55 after three frames.
Lenny Austin (left) was the Cheetahs leading point-getter with 21 points along with 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Jerome Blake (right) also had a big game with 20 points and 4 boards while Ben Millaud and Greishe Clerjuste each reached double figures in scoring with 10 points apiece.
The Cheetahs will also be in Ste-Foy (1-1) on Friday. Game time is 7:00 p.m. |
