As expected, Ahuntsic came out with guns blazing, but we were able to keep it close because our big man Kazadi Nyanguila (left) and guard Lenny Austin (right) were scoring at will. We trailed 23-19 after the first quarter. Early on in the 2nd frame, both Kazadi and Lenny picked up their second fouls, and we had to put them on the bench, which allowed Ahuntsic to extend their lead, and we trailed 44-35 at halftime.
Everything went Ahuntsic’s way for most of the 3rd quarter, and they led by 19 with 2 minutes remaining in that period. After using our 2nd time out of the half, we went on a run to close the gap to 11 heading into the final period. We continued to cut into the lead in the 4th quarter, and tied the game with 1:15 remaining. We led by 1 with 4 seconds left with our guard Jonathan Bermillo at the foul line. He made both shots (he was 9/9 in the game) and we thought we had the game won. Not so fast ! Ahuntsic made a desperation shot from beyond half court at the buzzer, sending the game into overtime.
The shot created pandemonium, as both Ahuntsic’s bench and the fans stormed the court. Our guys were able to keep their composure, and once order was restored, we scored the first 4 points in overtime. We eventually built up a 7-point lead, and finally won 103-100.
Kareem Jackson (left) had a monster game with 29 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists. Lenny Austin had his typical strong performance with 18 points, 7 assists and 3 steals. Jonathan Bermillo (right) was tremendous, taking over the game in the 4th quarter and finishing with 21 points. Kazadi Nyanguila had 13 points and 9 rebounds before fouling out. Seth Amoah and Ben Millaud added 10 points each.
