LADY CHEETAHS WIN, AAA MEN LOSE AT FRIDAY DOUBLEHEADER
November 23, 2009

Dear Alumni & Friends,

Our basketball teams were all in action last Friday, night, and the results were mixed. Our AAA teams hosted Ste Foy, both of whose teams came to Vanier with undefeated records.

AAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The first game was a close, exciting contest. Our women led 34-29 at the half, but Ste-Foy rallied to take a 52-51 lead into the 4th quarter. Our women played a very solid last period and finally pulled away for a 79-69 victory.

Natasha Raposo and Mathilde Larochelle had terrific games. Natasha had 26 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Mathilde had 23 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal. Andrea Baptista added 9 points and 8 rebounds.

(Note from the webmaster: The Ste-Foy team that we beat are the defending National champions, and prior to meeting us, were undefeated this season as well as ranked #1 in all of Canada. Way to go, Ladies!)

AAA MEN'S BASKETBALL

The second game of the doubleheader did not go so well for us. Ste Foy dominated the first quarter, taking a 32-13 lead.

We battled back and cut the lead to 8 in the 3rd quarter, but could get no closer, and finally lost 81-68.

Thomas Pearson led us with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Michael Fosu had 12 points and 4 rebounds. Kareem Jackson and Jonathan Bermillo added 10 points each.

Our AAA teams go on the road this week, playing at John Abbott Friday night. The women’s game is at 6:30 P.M. and the men’s game follows at 8:30.

Our AA men’s team got off to a bad start and lost 70-59 at Dawson Friday night (details to follow). They host Ahuntsic this Thursday night at 8:30 P.M.

On Sunday, three of our men’s AAA players (Seth Amoah, Ben Millaud, Joshua Pearson) accompanied me to the Raptors game against the Orlando magic. We hooked up with our former announcer Herbie Kuhn, now the stadium announcer for the Raptors, who took us courtside prior to the game and introduced the guys to Demar Derozean and Pops Mensah-Bonsu of the Raptors, J.J. Redick of the Magic and Hall of famer Alex English, now a Raptors assistant coach. After the game we visited Herbie, his wife Stephanie and son Enhle at their home in Scarborough. It was a great and memorable trip for us all. See photos below from the trip.
