VANIER OUTLASTS F.X. GARNEAU
AMEET PALL SETS ALL-TIME LEAGUE SACK RECORD

The Vanier Cheetahs Men’s AAA Football Team improved their early season record to a perfect 3-0 with a hard fought 22-17 decision over the François-Xavier-Garneau Élans this past Saturday at the Vanier College Football Field in St. Laurent.

Ameet Pall (right) had a tremendous game with 14 tackles, including 3 quarterback sacks to give him a career total of 24, the all-time league record. He surpasses Miguel Robédé who set the record from 1999-2001.

After conceding a first quarter safety to fall behind 2-0, the Cheetahs went ahead 7-6 in the second frame on a 3-yard touchdown run by Rémi Biakabutuka and a Mendy Cardichon convert. Another safety gave the guests an 8-7 advantage after three quarters before Vanier caught fire with 15 fourth quarter points as the hosts then held off the charging F.X. Garneau squad for the victory.


QB Myles Gibbon scrambles

Quarterback Myles Gibbon (seen in photo at left) connected with Sanchez Deschamps on a 15-yard touchdown toss and Gibbon then scampered into the endzone for the two-point conversion at the 3:34 mark of the fourth frame.

Less than two minutes later, Chris Campbell crossed the goal-line after hauling in an 18-yard pass from Gibbon. Cardichon added the extra point to give the Cheetahs a 22-8 lead and the eventual win.

Vanier was paced offensively by Rémi Biakabutuka with 12 carries for 24 yards and a touchdown and Duraney White who hauled in 7 passes for 95 yards, including a 30-yard bomb for quarterback Myles Gibbon. Gibbon also had a strong game, completing 9 of 16 pass attempts for 2 TDs and 117 yards with no interceptions.

They next play a home game VS Beauce-Appalaches on Saturday, Sept 22nd at 2 PM.


FLAG FOOTBALL: LADIES WIN TWO ON WEEKEND

In Flag-Football action, the Lady Cheetahs notched a pair of wins on the weekend to run their record to 2-1. On Saturday, the ladies routed neighboring St. Laurent 31-2. Quarterback Brittany Weekes led the Vanier attack with 4 touchdown passes and a convert. Kayla Normandin tallied 3 touchdowns to along with an interception while Marcelle Sealy added two majors in this convincing win.

On Sunday, the ladies outlasted the John Abbott Islanders 25-21 in an exciting contest. Brittany Weekes once again paced the Lady Cheetahs, throwing two touchdown passes and rushing for another.

Kayla Normandin chalked up another two touchdowns and Benatar Armand return an interception for a touchdown to give Vanier their first winning streak of the season.
