In Mens Provincial action, the AAA Cheetahs dropped a 90-79 decision to Montmorency. The Cheetahs were behind by 8 points at the half and 12 points in the fourth quarter before a furious comeback put them up by 2 points with 4 minutes remaining in regulation time. Unfortunately, Vanier could not hold on as they saw their season come to an end. Lerry Williams held the hot hand for the Cheetahs with 19 points. Ronald Vanel and Hernst Laroche were also in double figures in scoring with 13 and 12 points respectively. At the AAA awards banquet on Saturday evening, Michael Flannery was Vaniers Student Athlete award winner as he posted the highest academic average on his team. Hernst Laroche was honored as the league Rookie-of-the-Year, a sign of the bright future ahead for Coach Andy Hertzogs AAA squad.
Elsewhere, the Mens AA Cheetahs captured an exciting 93-89 overtime road win at Ahuntsic last night, in a game rescheduled from Friday due to the snowstorm. The Cheetahs trailed for most of the game and were down 7 points with less than a minute to play before embarking on a thrilling comeback for the victory. Pierre Monuma put forth a tremendous effort with 32 points while Marc Chery played a terrific game as he recorded 26 points. Vanier (11-6) will play host to the first place Dawson Blues (14-2) this coming Friday at the Vanier College Sports Complex. The tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
