WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM WINS SILVER IN PLAYOFFS
INDOOR SOCCER LEAGUE ACTION COMES TO AN END

April 14, 2005

Vanier's Women's Soccer Cheetahs took the silver medal at the Indoor Soccer playoffs. Here's how it all happened. First, to get to the finals, Champlain had to beat Ahuntsic on penalty shots. (Vanier had a bye because the Cheetahs finished first during the regular season.) It was the final that everybody was waiting for as the teams were 1-1-1 against each other. After finishing first in the league, the Vanier girls had high hopes and they certainly had reason to.

After having various scoring chances denied by the acrobatic Champlain goalkeeper in the first half, the Vanier girls started the second half strong. However, Champlain scored on a corner kick and the momentum completely changed as they cruised to a 3-0 win.

Coach Borja said, "At first glance, it seemed that it was one of those situations where you feel like you did not win silver but rather lost gold. But after the adrenaline wore off, you could only be proud of this girls. Remember, last year we were considered a AA team and for the winter they put us in a AAA division. If we did well, it's because on the field, the girls were committed to doing well".

Some players have ended their college playing careers:

-Lacey Hebert: a tremendous workhorse who would fit into any position with the same enthusiasm.
-Sanja Milic: a great technician who lives for soccer.
-Francisca Osorio Mendoza: a wonderful person who has achieved great things.
-Cristina DiCaprio: the prolific goal-scorer who proudly will wear the Vanier shirt for the last time during the All-star weekend.

Speaking of All-stars, Vanier will send 6 players to the All star game that will take place this Saturday, April 16th at CEPSUM (Universite de Montreal) starting at 3 PM. Here are the six Vanier All-Stars from the Women's Soccer team:

Francisca Osorio Mendoza
Amy Dunsmore
Sanja Milic
Cristina Di Caprio
Kimberly Fordham
Sarah Lucier-Boisvert
