WEEKEND SWEEP FOR CHEETAHS
AAA CLUBS READY FOR PROVINCIALS

The Women and Men’s AAA Cheetahs and the Men’s AA Cheetahs were all victorious at home this past week.

On Thursday, the Men’s AA Cheetahs outgunned rival Dawson 98-77 at the Vanier College Sports Complex. In a game that the home team held the lead throughout, Marc Chery notched 21 points while Matthew Vanier chalked up 15 points. Saad Beg and Pierre Monuma each also hit double figures in scoring with 13 and 11 points respectively as the Cheetahs raised their record to 12-3 and solidified their hold on second place. The Cheetahs will host an exhibition game this coming Friday night at 7:00 p.m. against the Dawson Community juvenile team. They will then play their regular season finale at Ahuntsic on Thursday, March 10th.


The Lady Cheetahs took on Ahuntsic this past Friday in a home contest which brought to an end to the regular portion of the schedule for both teams and took a commanding 34-8 lead at the half on their way to a convincing 62-39 decision. Yasmin Jean-Philippe held the hot hand for the ladies with 15 points 4 rebounds and 3 steals and Heather Eason also had a big game with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Vanessa Danisi tallied 8 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals while Ingrid Gilbert and Kristen Portwine recorded 7 points apiece and Amy Bakos hauled in 6 boards for the home side. The Lady Cheetahs (10-8) will face Ste. Foy (13-5) in the first round of the AAA Provincial Championships at Collège Montmorency in Laval this Friday. In the nightcap on Friday, the Men’s AAA Cheetahs routed Ahuntsic 86-48 to avenge a first semester loss. The Cheetahs led 38-19 at half-time on their way to this first place clinching victory. Colson Sénat was Vanier’s leading scorer with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. James Lee poured in 13 points to go along with 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 blocked shots while Mark D’Agostino and Lerry Williams each hit double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively along with 6 and 4 rebounds. Oliver Borenstein contributed 8 points and 11 boards as the Cheetahs improved to 12-4. Vanier will have a bye in the first round of the Provincial and will play in a semi-final game on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. also at Collège Montmorency.
