        BASKETBALL UPDATE
AAA WOMEN TAKE 79-51 WIN OVER AHUNTSIC
AAA MEN DROP SECOND HALF OF DOUBLEHEADER

December 3 , 2004

Our AAA teams played a rare doubleheader at Ahuntsic last night. The women got things off to a great start with an easy 79-51 victory. They led 44-19 at halftime and coasted from there. Vanessa Danisi was their leading scorer with 17 points, and she added 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Kristen Portwine and Heather Eason each had 13 points. Dranadia Roc had 11 points. Yasmin Jean-Philippe had 9 points and 5 rebounds. Caroline Hébert had 8 points and 8 rebounds. Our women improved their league record to 6-2 with the win.

Unfortunately, things went much worse for our AAA men in the nightcap. We trailed early and were behind 52-29 at the half. We have to give credit to Ahuntsic, which shot the ball extremely well, but it was a horrible performance on our part. We were very sloppy with the ball, and this led to easy scoring opportunities for our hosts. We played better in the 2nd half, cutting the lead to 11 on 4 separate occasions, and to as little as 8 once, but we could get no closer. We suffered our first league loss by a final score of 97-81, dropping our record to 6-1. Our leading scorer was Greg Page, who had 24 points along with 10 rebounds. Nathan Grant had 20 points and 5 rebounds. Adrian Sapp had 13 points and 7 rebounds. Mark D’Agostino had 12 points and 8 rebounds. The loss was made even worse by an ankle injury suffered by co-captain James Lee. We do not yet know how serious it is, but James was able to walk out of the gym, so hopefully it isn’t too bad.

Our AAA teams close out the first semester with games at arch-rival Dawson this Sunday. The women play at 1:00 and the men at 3:00.

Please remember that our men’s AA team plays its last game of the semester tonight at 7:00 at Vanier, against Ahuntsic. We hope to see you there.

Have a great week.
