It was another busy winter weekend for our Vanier basketball teams. The weekend started off with a doubleheader at home against Montmorency. In the first game, our women hung tough with the defending national champions for most of the first half, trailing only 24-20 with about 5 minutes remaining. However, Momo scored the last 7 points of the half to take a 31-20 lead into halftime, and then went on a huge run at the beginning of the 2nd half, to eventually win 71-35. The leading scorers for our women's team were Fabienne Bain, who had 10 points and 7 rebounds, and Caroline Hébert, who had 9 points and 5 rebounds. In the 2nd half of the doubleheader, our men's AAA team led the game from start to finish, and cruised to a surprisingly easy 101-79 victory, against a very tough Montmorency team. We got a 3-point play right off the opening tip, and played intensely all game long. We took a 53-37 lead at the half, upped our lead to 26 in the 2nd half, and eventually settled for a 22-point margin. Everyone scored for us, for the 2nd game in a row. Jerreh Saidybah had another monster game, with 22 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Dwayne Buckley had 19 points and shut down Montmorency's leading scorer (2nd in the league) - holding him to 1 point in the 1st half and 5 points overall. Paget Berridge had 12 points, and Damian Buckley had 10 assists for the 2nd game in a row. Next up for the AAA teams are 2 doubleheaders on the road this weekend. We play Ste Foy on Friday, and Edouard-Montpetit Sunday afternoon (women at 1:00, men at 3:00). Our AA men's team finally started their 2nd semester schedule with a 88-81 road win at Lionel-Groulx. They trailed by 11 in the first half, cut the deficit to 6 (39-33) at the half, and then turned it on in the 2nd half. Their leading scorers were Fahad Beg with 27 points, Fabrizio Fanton with 16 points and Andrew Bergeron with 11 points. Our AA men's team has a big home game against rival Dawson this Friday evening at 7:00. Andy Hertzog BACK TO ATHLETICS HOME PAGE |
