VANIER COLLEGE CHEETAHS HIRE NEW HEAD COACH
DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR CHRYSSOMALIS TO REPLACE DEPARTED GAGNON

January 12, 2004

Linda Macpherson, the Coordinator of Athletics at Vanier College, is pleased to announce the hiring of PETER CHRYSSOMALIS as head coach of the Vanier College AAA Cheetahs football team.

Chryssomalis, the Cheetahs 10th head coach since 1978, replaces the departed Ray Gagnon, who accepted a full-time position at Concordia University in December.

Chryssomalis, the Cheetahs’ Defensive Coordinator for three seasons, was previously the Concordia Stingers’ Defensive Back Coach in 1989 and Defence Coordinator from 1990-96. During this time, the Stingers’ captured the Dunsmore Cup as conference champions in 1993 and were conference finalists in 1994. In addition, Concordia had the #1 ranked defence in 1990 and the top pass defence in the conference in 1992.

Chryssomalis also has vast head coaching experience with the St. Leonard Cougars (1997-98) and the Chateauguay Raiders (1986-88) of the Canadian Junior Football League. The Raiders were League Champions in 1986, 87 and 88, and Provincial Champions in 1986 and 1988. The Cougars were finalists in both 1997 and 1998.

Chryssomalis, fluent in both English and French, is a very focused and dedicated individual who is a hard-worker. His enthusiasm and knowledge will be a definite asset as he follows in Ray Gagnon’s footsteps and continues the Vanier College football tradition.
