G. Arnold McArthur (1999)
Mac was Vanier College's first Chairman of the Board of Governors
from 1970-73 and then stayed on as a consultant to the College
until 1992. His influence with Vanier's administration was instrumental
in the development of the Athletic program.
Ian McArthur (2000)
"Sib" has been an integral part of the athletics program
since his arrival at the College in 1975. He has sat on the Vanier
Board of Directors, been the Coordinator of the Physical Education
Department and sat on Academic Council. He has coached with our
women's basketball, football and rugby teams at some point during
his tenure at Vanier. He has also served as Academic Coach to
all the athletes and been an inspiration and mentor to coaches
and athletes alike.
FAMILY
Hunger Family (1999)
Milly was a member of the Vanier athletic department from 1970
to 1993. Her great attitude and friendly face was the first impression
that most who dealt with the Athletics department came in contact
with. Milly was a great ambassador for the College especially
while hosting major events such as the soccer and basketball
CCAA National Championships.
Rick was the first of the Hunger children to don the Vanier
colours (black and gold at that time). An accomplished basketball
player, he was instrumental in leading the Cheetahs to a Provincial
Championship in the 1977 season. Rick went on to play for Providence
College (R.I.), Quebec, Canada and several pro teams in Italy,
Spain and Germany.
Carolyn was a swimmer at Vanier while studying Literature and
Languages, graduating in 1979. While at Vanier she was a gold
medallist in the 100 and 200 meter backstroke and the medley
relay at the Provincials held in Shawinigan. She went on to swim
for the University of Maryland where she received her received
her MBA in Marketing while on athletic scholarship.
Robert was the last (but hardly least) of the Hunger children
to make his way through Vanier. Playing on the Basketball team
from 1980-82 he continued the family tradition by heading south
of the border to continue his education at Dartmouth College
(N.H.). Robert played basketball during his first two years and
then switched to rugby for his junior and senior years.
ATHLETE
Mike Maurovich (1999)
Mike was a student at Vanier College from 1976-78. He was an
active member of the Athletic Council as well as Captain of the
football team. Named the team Most Valuable Player and Athlete
of the Year in 1978, he graduated and went on to study and play
at McGill University. Returning to Vanier in 1994, Mike coached
the Cheetah football team to two consecutive Bol d'Or appearances.
Annette Kiss (2000)
Annette was a basketball player at Vanier from 1978-80. She
led her team in scoring and rebounding during both of her seasons
as a Cheetah. Captaining her team to a fourth place finish at
the National Championships in '79, Annette set a record for most
points in a game and tournament and was named to the All Tournament
Team.
