Here is Coach Andy Hertzog’s full game report:
Our Division 1 basketball teams hosted a doubleheader Friday night. In the first game, our women took on Champlain Lennoxville. In the second game, our men took on first place Brebeuf, whose only loss this season was to us in the first semester. Both games proved to be exciting contests.
The women’s game was very tight in the first half – we led 16-14 after the first quarter and the score was tied at 29 at halftime. Lennoxville opened up a 7-point lead after 3 quarters, but we came back and reclaimed the lead in the 4th. We led 56-53 when our guests hit a 3-point shot to tie the game with 12 seconds remaining. We were not able to get off a shot on our final possession, and the game went into overtime. Lennoxville hit a 3 to grab a lead at the start of the extra period, but they did not score again, and we ended up winning 69-59. Our leading scorer was Catherine Destin with 14 points. Debora Aboagye had a “double double” with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The men’s game was another exciting contest. We led throughout the first half – 17-12 after the first quarter and 33-27 at halftime. We opened up a 10-point advantage early in the 3rd quarter, but Brebeuf came back and cut our lead to 3 going into the final period. Brebeuf then hit 7 3’s in the final quarter, many from NBA range, and they seized a 6-point lead. We cut the deficit to 2, but could not get over the hump, and we finally lost 70-63. Our leading scorers were Josh Koulamallah and Quarry Whyne with 15 and 14 points respectively. Pier-Olivier Racine had 9 points. Steeve Joseph chipped in with 8 points and 6 assists.
Our Division 1 teams travel to Ste Foy next Friday night, and then our men’s team hosts Outaouais on Sunday at 1:00 PM, followed by the Division 2 Men facing Universel at 3:00 PM.
