Division 2 Men’s Cheetahs Start 2014 With A Win

It was a very exciting night of basketball as our men’s and women’s Division 1 basketball teams traveled to the South Shore to take on the Lynx of Édouard-Montpetit.


In the first game, our women took a 12-9 lead after the first quarter, and opened up a 25-16 lead in the 2nd period. Our hosts narrowed the gap to 25-23, but then Caroline Task hit a 3 at the buzzer to give us a 5 point advantage at halftime. We maintained our lead most of the 2nd half, and led by 4 with a minute left, but the Lynx managed to even the score and send the game into overtime. We were down by 3 late in the overtime, and Caroline Task hit another clutch 3 with 6 seconds remaining, to send the game into double overtime. Unfortunately, we could not maintain the momentum into the second overtime period, and we eventually lost 72-69.

Caroline Task had a terrific game, with 25 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals. Aye-Sonna Barry had 12 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. In the second half of the doubleheader, which started around 40 minutes late, our men took a small 18-17 lead after the first period. We trailed 27-20 with just over 3 minutes remaining in the period, but then we on a 16-2 run to end the half, and we took a 36-29 lead into halftime. We maintained the lead throughout the 3rd quarter and took a 54-50 lead into the final frame. We opened up a 63-52 lead early in the 4th quarter, but the Lynx would not quit and kept coming back. However, they could never get closer than 4 points, and we eventually won 78-74.

Our leading scorer was Tevonn Walker, who had 19 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, despite missing much of the first half with early foul trouble. Abdul Kamane had another “double double” with 17 points and 16 boards. Keith Jean had 9 points. Schneiders Suffrard had 8 points and 9 rebounds.


In the first game, our Division 2 men’s team played their first game of the second semester against rival Dawson. We got off to a hot start, taking a 16-3 lead to start the game. We led 24-12 after the first quarter. We were up 37-22 in the second quarter, but Dawson went on a 13-0 run to close the gap to 2. We finally took a 41-35 lead into halftime. We maintained our lead throughout the second half, but Dawson narrowed our lead to 71-70 with under 2 minutes remaining. We then went on a 7-0 run to take a 78-70 lead, and finally won 79-73.

Our leading scorers were Khalil Mills with 17 points, Giorgio El-Nacouzi with 16 points and Brian Bristol-Small with 14. The win improved their league record to 8-2 and extended their current win streak to 7 games. Click for more on our Div.2 Men’s Basketball Cheetahs.


n the second game, our men’s Division 1 team took on Ste-Foy, and our long winning streak came to a crashing halt. We were simply outworked and out-executed for most of the game, and suffered an 81-67 loss, dropping our league record to 14-2. We fell behind early (16-8 after the first quarter and 36-25 at the half) and although we narrowed the lead several times, we were never able to come back.

Our leading scorer was Tevonn Walker with 20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Schneiders Suffrard had 19 points and 7 boards. Abdul Kamane had 12 points and 7 rebounds. Click for more on our Div.1 Men’s Basketball Cheetahs.


This Friday we will host another doubleheader. Our women will play Trois-Rivieres at 7:00 and our men’s Division 2 team hosts Montmorency. Our men’s Division 1 team does not have a game this week.
