The Division 1 Women’s and Men’s Basketball teams both played road games on Friday evening. The Lady Cheetahs played against Trois-Rivieres and came up just short in a very close 56-53 decision. The Division 1 Men’s team fared better in their road game at John Abbott College, winning 84-69. The victory improved their record to 6-1, putting them in first place! Read the game recap from Div.1 Men’s Head Coach Andy Hertzog:

Our Division 1 basketball teams were on the road Friday night, while our men’s Division 2 team had this weekend off.

Our women’s team dropped a close 56-53 decision to Trois-Rivieres (details not available).

Our men’s D1 team didn’t have so far to travel, as we just had to go to the West Island to play John Abbott. We got off to a fast start, scoring the first 9 points of the game and taking a 41-25 lead into halftime, despite playing much of the first half without 2 starters, who had foul trouble. Unfortunately, we did not come out with the same intensity in the second half, and John Abbott actually took a 1-point lead in the 3rd quarter, before we finished the period tied. We went to a press in the final period, caused a bunch of turnovers and pulled away once again, opening up a 19-point advantage and finally winning 84-69. We had 5 players score in double figures, led by J.F. Daho, who had 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Nginyu Ngala and Khalifa Koulamallah each had 11 points, with Khalifa adding 5 boards. Quarry Whyne and Haris Elezovic added 10 points each, with 8 and 6 rebounds respectively.

Our Division 1 teams close out the first semester hosting a doubleheader against Ste-Foy on Sunday, December 3. The women’s game is at 1:00 PM and the men’s game follows at 3:00 PM. Our men’s Division 2 team is back in action next Friday, December 1, hosting Rosemont. Game time is 9:00 PM.

Our men’s Division 1 basketball team has just moved up to number 4 in the CCAA national rankings of November 28th (we had been at number 8 last week). This is a high as we have been ranked in several years. See below:
