April 24, 2009 COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD

TEXT OF THE SPEECH GIVEN FOR THIS AWARD Before we announce the coach of the year award, we would now want to take the time to honour all of our coaches. Being a Cegep coach is a big commitment, many of the coaches put countless number of hours per week to run their program. Their dedication and desire to make Vanier an excellence program is beyond the call of duty. All our coaches are doing this on a part-time basis while holding their regular jobs. To all the players please let’s put our hands together and give them a big thank you round of applause. Now on to this year’s award. This year’s recipient has been a head coach at Vanier for already 4 years. She brought the program a lot of recognition by winning a league championship as well as two provincial championships in a row. The team was the National champion in 2007 and bronze medalists in 2008. This year, with only four returning players, the Cheetahs surprised a lot of people by being a contender for the league title in a three way battle for first place. Those efforts were recognized by league coaches as she was awarded the FQSE coach of the year award. She has great leadership abilities and is a very charismatic communicator. We are honoured and privileged to have her head our basketball team. It is my pleasure to announce that the 2009 coaching award goes to RUBY VIRAY, head coach of the women’s basketball team. |
