ALUMNI ARE HELPING ASPIRING PROS
Back in 2009, Former Vanier Cheetahs Football stars Adrian Davis, Shawn Mayne, Kevin Challenger, Jabari Arthur, Jonathan Williams and Blake Butler all made it in the CFL and then decided to do something concrete to help others have the same chance they did. Led by CFL veteran receiver Jabari Arthur, they formed a group called The Athletic Academy.
They have recently been joined by Cheetahs quarterback coach Ron Aboud and former Cheetah great Nathan Taylor, currently a CFL Prospect for the 2013 Draft and a Defensive Back for the Concordia Stingers.
After celebrating his team's Grey Cup win in 2008, Jabari Arthur stayed in Montreal and helped create the company with three other CFLers. The founding group, which included defensive lineman Adrian Davis, defensive lineman Sean Mayne and receiver Kevin Challenger, helped aspiring football players reach the next level.
"We worked with young kids who aspire to reach the next level," Arthur said. "We were fortunate enough to get to the U.S. (on scholarships), so we're trying to bring back a piece of what we learned. "We hope to give them an opportunity we weren't shown."
