Congratulations to the four Vanier students and graduates who competed in the 2016 Olympics in RIO DE JANEIRO. Although none of them claimed a medal, they all put in remarkable performances making it to the finals and almost reaching the podium with a couple of fourth place finishes
Vanier graduate Dorothy Yeats, made her first appearance at the Olympics in Women’s Wrestling (69kg). It’s a gruelling sport and far more difficult than it appears. Dorothy came in fourth place – an outstanding first-time accomplishment.
Vanier’s Pamela Lina Ware also came in fourth place in the diving finals. Pamela Ware and her diving partner Jennifer Abel put in spectacular dives and missed the podium by only one point.
And, last but not least, Vanier’s Jacqueline Simoneau and Karine Thomas came 7th in the synchronized swimming duet final. Simoneau and Thomas are double gold medallists from the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, winning in the duet and team events.
Congratulations to all these inspiring young women some of whom are still at Vanier as part of the Sports-études program and some of whom have graduated from Vanier. Good luck to all of them in the future.
