VANIER WRESTLER VINCE DE MARINIS ON CTV SPORTS
May 9, 2013
Congratulations to Vanier wrestler Vince De Marinis (far left) who was recently the subject of a CTV Sports video featurette that aired on May 8th. The video presented Vince as the latest subject of the series "Randy's Rookies" which focuses on up and coming stars of amateur sports. In March, Vince won a Silver Medal in his weight division at the Canadian Junior National Wrestling Championships in Fredericton. DIVISION 2 MEN BOW OUT AT PROVINCIALS
QUALIFIED AFTER WINNING 3 GAMES AT REGIONALS
April 15, 2013
The Division 2 Men's Basketball Cheetahs' season ended this weekend at the Provincial Championships in Chicoutimi. On Friday, Vanier played against Champlain-Lennoxville in the quarterfinals and despite posting solid offensive numbers, they lost 102-91. Then on Saturday morning, Vanier played Alma in the Consolation Round and lost a tight-collar 77-75 decision. Congratulations to Head Coach Rowan Barnes and to the entire team for a great season and a very strong 3-1 showing at the Regional Championships which propelled them into the hotly-contested Provincials.

MIXED VOLLEYBALL TEAM WINS SILVER!
ONLY LOSS IN PLAYOFFS IS IN FINALS VS JOLIETTE

Congratulations to the Vanier Mixed Volleyball Cheetahs who competed at the Regional Playoffs held at Dawson on Sunday. They made it all the way to the finals before losing to the powerhouse team from Joliette, thus securing themselves a well-deserved Silver Medal. DIVISION 1 CHAMPIONS ANNOUNCE 2013 SPRING DATES

The Division 1 Men's Football Cheetahs will be holding their annual Spring Camp from May 16-19. All players must be INVITED to Spring Camp, there will be no walk-ons permitted. The cost of camp will be $25.00 and must be paid in full on Thursday May 17th before practice. You will receive a Vanier Football T-Shirt and there will be a Buffet for the entire team after the scrimmage. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact Coach Pete. DIVISION 1 MEN'S INDOOR SOCCER LEAGUE SEASON ENDS
LOSE TO TOP TEAMS AT THE PLAYOFFS

April 7, 2013

The Men's Division 1 Soccer Cheetahs first experience at indoor soccer ended after they were eliminated in the playoffs on Saturday, April 6th. They started off in the quarterfinals playing 1st place ETS and ended up losing 2-0. In the consolation round match that followed, they also drew a very tough opponent in 2nd place Rosemont, to whom they lost by an identical 2-0 score. FREDERIQUE POTVIN COMMITS TO
THE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH

RECEIVES FULL ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP
March 20, 2013
The two-time CCAA All-Canadian had made her choice for next season. The University of Pittsburgh is the place she will be studying social work. Frederique has had an illustrious career at Vanier. Besides her All-Canadian awards, she was also a 3-time league all-star and was the 2011-12 Vanier Female Athlete of the year. This season she led the league in scoring and assists. Frederique is also a

RECEIVES AWARD FOR THE SECOND TIME
March 13, 2013
Congratulations to Frédérique Potvin, captain of our Division 1 Vanier Basketball Lady Cheetahs. She was named on March 13th as a 2013 CCAA Women's Basketball All-Canadian, her second time to be given this national-level honour. This award came as a result of her stellar record throughout the year in the very tough Quebec division, arguably the most competitive in all Canada. Frédérique was named as the RSEQ league's Player of the Year, was tops in the league in both scoring and assists last season, and helped lead Vanier to an excellent 12-5 record. Click for more

DIV. 1 BASKETBALL TEAMS BOW OUT IN PLAYOFFS
DIV. 2 MEN POST UPSET WIN OVER UNDEFEATED BRÉBEUF

The Division 1 Basketball Cheetah teams played in the Provincial Championships on the weekend and both were eliminated in hotly contested matches. The Lady Cheetahs lost 76-60 to the host Champlain St. Lambert Cavaliers while the Div. 1 Men dropped a close 72-67 decision to Dawson. The Div. 2 Men played 13-0 Brébeuf on Friday and emerged with the 79-76 upset victory. They will finish their regular season with a road game this Saturday at Outaouais. Click for Click for more.

The Division 1 Basketball Cheetah teams played a doubleheader VS Dawson at home on Friday evening. In the first match, the Lady Cheetahs came within a whisker of pulling off an upset before losing to the #1 ranked Lady Blues However, in the 2nd game, our Div. 1 Men's team took a solid 77-69 win over the visiting Dawson men's team. All three Vanier Basketball Cheetah teams played a rare road tripleheader against Montmorency on Sunday. The Div. 2 Men almost came away with an upset win, losing in the last seconds 77-76. The Division 1 Basketball Cheetah teams played a doubleheader VS Champlain Saint-Lambert at home on Thursday evening and both squads emerged with wins. In the first match, the Lady Cheetahs defeated the visiting Cavaliers 80-65, while in the 2nd game, our Div. 1 Men's team took a stirring last-minute come-from-behind 81-75 victory. The Division 1 Lady Basketball Cheetahs took an extremely convincing 80-36 road win at Trois-Rivières on Sunday afternoon. Stellar performances by Frederique Potvin, Janie Vigneault and Emily Potvin helped seal the deal. On Friday evening, the Div. 2 Men's Basketball team played at home against the 10-2 team from Ahuntsic and unfortunately came up with a 75-74 loss.The Div.1 teams play a home doubleheader this Thursay evening VS Champlain St-Lambert. The Division 1 Basketball Cheetah teams played two tough road doubleheaders on the weekend. On Friday they played at Édouard-Montpetit. The women lost 67-59 and the Men lost a close one 81-79. On Sunday they faced Sainte-Foy and the ladies lost 69-61 while the Men lost 85-69. The Division 2 Men, however, won a gritty 77-75 road win over their perennial rivals from Dawson on Friday evening. BASKETBALL TEAMS HAVE SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND
WIN FIVE OF SIX GAMES PLAYED

January 28, 2013

All three Vanier Basketball teams played on both Friday evening and on Sunday afternoon. The Division 2 Men beat Héritage 98-94 on Friday and then took a solid win over Marie-Victorin by the score of 94-55 to open Sunday's home tripleheader. The Division 1 Women won over Sherbrooke 91-56 and then beat John Abbott 71-55 on Sunday, thus improving their record to 9-2. The Division 1 Men lost a close one on the road to Ahuntsic 76-73 on Friday evening, but then rebounded for a tight-collar 72-70 win over John Abbott at home on Sunday. Click for Click for more.

EMILY PRÉVOST WILL PLAY WITH LANCERS

The University of Windsor Lancers Head Coach Chantal Vallée announced the commitment of Emily Prevost to their Women’s Basketball program for the 2013-14 season. Emily is currently the leading scorer in the Quebec Conference, averaging 19.1 points per game, placing her ninth overall in Canada. The Division 1 Men's Basketball Cheetahs played their first game of the year on the road against Édouard-Montpetit on Sunday. Unfortunately, despite the 22-point effort of Greishe Clerjuste, they came out on the short end of a 86-74 decision. LADIES TAKE SILVER AT SENECA STING
POTVIN & SELHAM NAMED TOURNAMENT ALL-STARS

January 8, 2013
In the opening round, Vanier beat Humber Hawks 54-43 (see photos) and then faced Algoma Thunderbirds in the semi-finals. Algoma opened a 7-point lead after the first quarter but the Cheetahs took control and held a 30-26 lead into the half. Algoma fought hard in the second half but Vanier held firm and won 50-45. In the Gold Medal Game, the Algonquin Thunder defeated Vanier Cheetahs 63-58. See photos. Frederique Potvin and Zineb Selham were selected to the team of Tournament All-Stars.

For the first time, there will be an indoor soccer competition in which our Division 1 Men's Soccer team will participate against both Cégep and University teams. VANIER TO GET NEW ARTIFICIAL TURF FIELD!

At a news conference held on December 20th, it was announced that Vanier College would be the site for the construction of a new artificial turf field which will be shared by local Saint-Laurent soccer and football clubs and by the men’s and women’s sports teams here at Vanier. The conference was attended by Als quarterback Anthony Calvillo and Mayor Alan DeSousa as well as Vanier DG Gilbert Héroux and provincial officials. Click for Click for more.

The Division 1 Men's Basketball Cheetahs played in a showcase tournament called the Scholar Roundball Classic in Boston over the weekend and won both of their games aginst some very tough American opponents. Tevonn Walker and Greishe Clerjuste were our top scorers in the 1st game and then Tevonn and Jean-Louis Wanya were our big guns in the 2nd game. DIVISION 2 MEN DROP HOME GAME TO OUTAOUAIS

All three basketball teams played road games on Friday evening.

The Division 1 Women improved to 7-1 with a 77-54 win at Nouvelles-Frontieres. However, the Division 1 Men's team lost 76-60 at Ste-Foy, dropping their league record to 6-4, and the Division 2 Men's team saw their league record drop to 4-4 with a 82-74 home loss to Outaouais.

On Sunday, there was a Division 1 doubleheader on the road at Dawson. The Women lost to the undefeated Blues 74-58, dropping their record to 7-2, but the Division 1 Men won their game 83-76, thus improving their record to 7-4. Click for Click for more.

The Division 1 Men's Football Cheetahs won thier 4th Bol d'Or in the past 7 years on Saturday in Québec City, beating the Lennoxville Cougars 25-19 in a hotly contested match between the league's two top teams. The ladies were led to an 81-77 overtime thriller helped by great efforts from Frédérique Potvin and Emily Prévost, (seen at upper left).

In the second half of the doubleheader, the Men were paced to their 70-64 win by Tevonn Walker and Greishe Clerjuste (seen just below).

FOOTBALL CHEETAHS WIN IN SEMI-FINALS SATURDAY
TEAM WILL FACE LENNOXVILLE COUGARS IN BOL D'OR
November 12 , 2012
Vanier's Football Cheetahs defeated the Montmorency Nomades on Saturday in the Division 1 Football semi-finals. The game was close for the first quarter, but then the offence scored 29 unanswered points and the Cheetahs emerged with the 44-14 victory. They will now face the Cougars in the Bol d'Or in Québec City on this coming Saturday. The Cheetahs were led again by QB Hugo Richard who rushed for 4 TDs himself. The Division 1 Men's Basketball Cheetahs played in a doubleheader on Friday VS Sainte-Foy and emerged with an incredibly stirring last-second 69-68 win. The Div.1 Ladies earlier had lost 84-71 to Sainte-Foy, ranked #1 in the country. On Sunday, the Div.1 and Div.2 Men's teams both lost at home to Montmorency. The Lady Flag Football Cheetahs played in the Regional playoffs this weekend and won the championship banner which will be raised to the rafters of our Vanier Sports Complex gymnasium! The Ladies took a tight 7-6 win over Rosemont on Saturday and then faced the undefeated team from Bois-de-Boulgne (10-0) on Sunday emerging with a convincing 31-20 championship victory. OUR MAX HANNA WINS CTSQ AWARD

Longtime Vanier Athletic Therapist Max Hanna has won the CTSQ (la Corperation des Therapeutres du Sports du Quebec) Outstanding SAT (Student Athletic Therapist) / Internship Provider Award. This award is given to CTSQ members who have given tirelessly of themselves to provide time, support, and guidance to CTSQ certification members on their quest to becoming successful Certified Athletic Therapists. Their efforts provide a strong professional base and future for the field of Athletic Therapy in Quebec. The monetary award of $500.00 is meant to acknowledge their efforts. Congratulatoions, Max!

Vanier's Football Cheetahs defeated Montmorency on Saturday to complete their season at 9-1. They next play in the playoff semi-finals on November 10th. Meanwhile, all three basketball teams posted wins on Friday, two of them against arch-nemesis Dawson. The Div. 1 Men beat Dawson 80-73 on the road, the Div. 2 men's team beat Dawson at Vanier and the Ladies defeated Sherbrooke 86-58. The Rugby teams didn't fare as well against undefeated John Abbott. The Women's Soccer Cheetahs' season came to an end with a 4-1 loss to St-Jean in the playoff semifinals. Our Football Cheetahs hosted Vieux-Montréal on Saturday at home and emerged with a gritty 22-19 victory. TD tosses by QB Richard Hugo to Alexandre Savard and Dev Lamour paved the way for the win. The team remains in 1st place with a current record of 7-1. In other action, the Men's Soccer Cheetahs, led by the 2 goals of Nathan Campbell, defeated Lionel-Groulx on Friday. However, they lost to Saint-Lambert 1-0 on Sunday, so their season record is now 1-7-1. Also on Sunday, the Flag Football Lady Cheetahs won 13-0 on the road over Granby while the Lady Rugby Cheetahs lost at home to Champlain-Lennoxville 15-7. Click for Click for more.

The Division 2 Lady Soccer Cheetahs have finished the season in first place following two wins on Friday and Sunday. The win on Friday was at home and the Ladies blanked Lionel-Groulx 3-0. They then played a road game against Maisonneuve on Sunday and secured a 4-2 victory to finish the season with a 7-1-0 record. DOROTHY YEATS IS NAMED AS A FINALIST FOR
CANADIAN JUNIOR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARD

Our very own Dorothy Yeats, Vanier's top student wrestler and a world champion in her weight category, (see video) has been named as one of the three finalists for the 40th Canadian Sport Awards in the category of Junior Athlete of the Year. The award winner will be announced in a ceremony that will be held on October 17, 2012. Congratulations yet again, Dory! We'll be pulling for you to win the award, but just to be nominated is a huge honour! You can read the press release for more info.

FOOTBALL CHEETAHS BACK ON WINNING TRACK
HOWEVER OTHER VARSITY TEAMS NOT AS SUCCESSFUL

Our Football Cheetahs are back to winning (and back in 1st place) after a 30-13 road win over F-X-Garneau on Saturday. Their season record is now 6-1. On Friday, the Division 1 Men's Soccer Cheetahs lost 2-1 to Sainte-Foy and then on Sunday afternoon they lost 4-1 to John Abbott. Also, the previously undefeated Division 2 Lady Soccer Cheetahs lost on Sunday to Marianopolis 4-1. Their record is now 5-1. On Sunday, the Lady Flag Football Cheetahs lost 32-12 to Gerald-Godin and both rugby teams lost in a doubleheader @ Champlain St-Lambert. The Men lost 17-7 while the Ladies lost 44-0. WOMENS SOCCER TEAM REMAINS UNDEFEATED WITH 3-2 WIN
The Vanier Football Cheetahs lost 17-7 to Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars on Saturday afternoon in a match of undefeated teams with 5-0 records. The Women's Div. 2 Soccer Cheetahs are now 4-0 after a 3-2 win over Maisonneuve. The Div. 1 Men's Soccer Cheetahs lost to Rosemont 2-1, while the Lady Flag Football Cheetahs lost a 13-12 squeaker at home. Finally, the Vanier Men's and Women's Rugby Cheetahs suffered twin road losses in a doubleheader at Dawson on Sunday. Click for Click for more.

FOOTBALL CHEETAHS JUST KEEP ON WINNING

Our football team extended their perfect season record to 5-0 with an easy 36-3 home win over Notre-Dame-de-Foy on Saturday. Three unanswered TDs in the 3rd quarter secured the victory for the undefeated Cheetahs. The Lady Soccer Cheetahs are now 2-0 after their 2-1 road win over Marianopolis on Saturday, and the Lady Flag Football team are also 2-0 after a 6-0 decision over Rosemont. The Men's Div.1 Soccer team played twice, tying Ahuntsic 1-1 and then losing 1-0 to Dawson. Our Rugby teams split a home doubleheader on Sunday. The ladies lost 12-3, the men won 20-7. 4 LADY BASKETBALL CHEETAHS WIN
CCAA NATIONAL SCHOLAR AWARDS

The National Scholar Award is presented each year to athletes by the Canadian College Athletic Association (CCAA) in recognition of outstanding academic accomplishments and is only presented to athletes who maintain honour-roll status.

This year, no fewer than four members of the Vanier Women's Division 1 Basketball team were presented with this award. Congratulations to (seen at left clockwise from upper-left) Carissa Tapia, Emily Prévost, Catherine Desbiens and Catherine Couillard who each won 2011-2012 CCAA National Scholar Awards.

The Vanier Football Cheetahs extended their season record to 4-0 with a 46-9 road win over Les Faucons de Lévis-Lauzon on Saturday evening. In other action, the Men's Div. 1 Soccer Cheetahs lost their season opener 3-0 to Champlain St. Lambert on Friday evening. However, three other teams won their season openers: Div. 2 Lady Soccer Cheetahs beat Bois-de-Boulogne 2-1, Lady Flag Football Cheetahs defeated Granby 19-13, and the Men's Rugby team beat André-Laurendeau 34-0. YEATS WINS GOLD AT JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

We're very happy to announce that Vanier wrestler Dorothy Yeats has won a Gold Medal in the 67 kg category at the 2012 Junior World Championships, held in Pattaya, Thailand on September 6th. She defeated Russia's Svetlana Babushkina in the finals to seal her title. This world championship is just the latest feather in the cap of this amazingly gifted athlete. Earlier this year, Dory won Gold at the Canadian Championships in both the Junior AND Senior levels. Congratulations, Dory! Click for more.

FOOTBALL CHEETAHS BEAT VIEUX!
September 3, 2012

The Vanier Football Cheetahs entered the lion's den by playing a road game in the CEPSUM stadium against arch-rival Vieux-Montréal on Saturday evening and emerged with a stirring 27-24 victory. The first half was a see-saw offensive battle, but in the 2nd half our defense shut the door and it was only a late TD by Vieux that made the score seem to be as close as it was. Dev Lamour caught a passing TD from Vanier pivot Hugo Richard, who ran in for two TDs himself. Bruce Vieira's rushing TD rounded out the scoring. The 3-0 Cheetahs play again on the road this Saturday at Lévis-Lauzon starting at 7:30PM. Click for Click for more.

FOOTBALL CHEETAHS WIN HOME OPENER

The Vanier Football Cheetahs celebrated their home opener on Saturday afternoon with a lopsided 53-11 victory over the Montmorency Nomades at our home field at the Loyola campus of Concordia University. QB Richard Hugo had another great outing with 3 TD tosses and a total of 219 throwing yards. Marley Patterson had twin 2-yard TD runs early in the 1st quarter to put us up 14-nil and we never looked back. Bryce Vieira also scored 2 TDs. The team next faces Vieux-Montréal in an away game this Saturday in the CEPSUM (directions) at 7:30PM. Click for Click for more.

The Football Cheetahs got the 2012 season off on the right foot by taking a 30-9 road win over Édouard-Montpetit on Saturday. Vanier quarterback Hugo Richard threw three TD tosses and had 0 interceptions. Hauling in those TD passes were Bryce Vieira with two and Dev Lamour with one. Marley Patterson added a rushing touchdown in the victory. The team next plays their home opener VS Montmorency this Saturday, August 25th at 1PM at our Concordia U (Loyola) home field locale. Martine Dugrenier : Wrestling - 63kg
Result: Martine just missed a Bronze Medal.

David Tremblay : Wrestling - 55kg
Result: eliminated in the preliminaries.

Karine Thomas : Synchronized Swimming
Result: Karine's team finished in 4th place.

Karine Sergerie : Taekwondo - 67kg
Result: eliminated in the quarterfinals.

LONDON OLYMPICS UPDATE - MARTINE DUGRENIER
August 8, 2012
Martine Dugrenier started her Olympic journey on Wednesday, August 8th against some very stiff competition — two-time gold medalist in the 63kg class, Japan's Kaori Icho. At the end, Icho emerged victorious, eliminating Dugrenier from gold medal contention. The match could have gone either way and Icho finally sealed the win with a dramatic last-second point in the second round. Dugrenier next won a shot at the bronze medal by winning her match in the repechage rounds VS Henna Johansson. However, she lost in the bronze medal final to Mongolia’s Battsetseg Soronzonbold. Great effort, Martine! We're proud of you!

MOE PETRUS SIGNED BY NFL'S TAMPA BAY!

We were thrilled to hear that former Vanier Football Cheetah Moe Petrus has been signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL. He participated in their training camp and impressed them enough that they signed him. At 6 foot 2 inches and 302 pounds, Moe was named to the to the Big-East First All-Star team. He participated in 52 consecutive games with UConn before being snapped up by the Bucs. His signing was reported on this page in CBS Sports, and in greater detail (from TSN) on this page. Congratulations, Moe!

Four of our former Cheetahs were snapped up in the CFL Draft. Ameet Pall (far left) went even earlier than expected and was drafted 5th overall in the entire CFL! He will be playing for the Calgary Stampeders. To view a video posted by Calgary about Ameet's selection, click here.

Matthew Norman (top right) went in round 3 and was picked up by BC via Hamilton.

Also, Hasan Hazime (seen at bottom left) was picked in round 5 by the Esks while Ryan White (at bottom right) was selected in round 6 by the Als.

MCGILL INTRAMURAL CÉGEP FESTIVAL!

Vanier brought home the title of Champions from the 40th Annual McGill Intramural Cégep Festival for the fourth time in the last five years on Friday, April 13th. All six English Cégeps participated in an evening of friendly competition in Badminton, Basketball, Dodgeball, Soccer and Volleyball. We just squeaked ahead of John Abbott by a mere 1 point for the win. Congratulations to the 50 students who participated and made this all possible. Click on the photo at left.

Congratulations to former Vanier wrestlers Martine Dugrenier, David Tremblay and current wrestler Dorothy Yeats (seen clockwise from top, left) who all have been in the news recently.

Martine and David both won at an important qualifying tournament in Orlando, Florida and have now officially qualified for the upcoming 2012 Olympics in London. Vanier Phys Ed teacher Victor Zilberman will coach them at what will be his amazing sixth Olympic games!

Meanwhile, current Vanier wrestling mega-star Dorothy Yeats won Gold yet again, this time at the Canadian Nationals. Awesome!

DIVISION 2 MEN'S SEASON ENDS AT REGIONAL PLAYOFFS

As the second ranked team in Quebec, the Provincial Silver Medal-winning Division 1 Men's Basketball Cheetahs advanced to the CCAA National Championship in Truro, Nova Scotia. They finished the tournament with a win over Mount Saint Vincent University on Saturday after two tough and close losses to Mohawk College (eventual Gold Medal team) on Thursday and then to Red Deer College on Friday. BEN MILLAUD IS CCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Congratulations go out to 3rd year guard Ben Millaud, who just named as the CCAA (national) Player of the Week. Ben was co-captain of our national championship team last year and was named to the All-Tournament team at Nationals. Ben has been instrumental in our team’s continued success this year. He is currently the league’s leading scorer (18.3 ppg), he also leads the league in 3-point shooting (45), and he is 2nd in foul shooting (86.4%). Also, he is contributing on the boards, averaging 5.1 rebounds per game. Last week, in a 78-64 victory against our traditional rival Dawson College, Ben led our team in both points scored (24) and rebounds (8). See the announcement.

DOROTHY YEATS WINS GOLD AT GUELPH OPEN

Second year student, Dory Yeats, a 4-time national age group champion, won the biggest annual university tournament in Canada, the Guelph Open.  Dory defeated some of the best senior wrestlers in the country.  To date, Dory has dominated university meets this year - the Concordia University Invitational, University of Toronto Invitational, McMaster University Invitational and now the Guelph University Open. MATTHEW BARR FEATURED IN GREAT GAZETTE STORY
January 13, 2012

Division 2 Men's Basketball star Matthew Barr was the subject of a recent Gazette article regarding two major Humanitarian Awards that he has won as well as as his numerous other achievements. Specifically, Matthew won the 2011 Terry Fox Humanitarian Award and the 2011 Upper Year Garfield Weston Award for his work. Barr is a second-year nursing student at Vanier College and has already earned his pilot's licence plus he has been to Haiti no fewer than three times on earthquake-related rescue missions. BEN MILLAUD NOW OVER 1000 POINTS
January 9, 2012
Congratulations go out to 3rd year guard Ben Millaud, who recently scored his 1,000th point as a Cheetah. He entered the game VS Ste-Foy with 985 points, and after his 30-point performance, he has now tallied 1015 points in his Vanier College career. Ben had a very solid first semester after which he leads the league in scoring, is second in 3-point shooting and foul shooting, and is 4th in steals. Ben is also 2nd on our team in assists and rebounds. With a 7-1 record in 2011, the Cheetahs are in 1st place in the RSEQ and are currently ranked 4th in all of Canada. They are also the defending National Champions. Way to go, Ben!

No fewer than four members of our 2011 team were honoured at the league's awards banquet held on Saturday evening.

Those chosen were (seen clockwise starting from the upper left) Joël Brtka, Marc Glaude, James Reinlein and Maiko Zepeta.

James Reinlein was also picked as an Academic All-Star. It's also worth noting that Marc Glaude was previously honoured with an All-Star selection last year as well.

We just heard that one of our former wrestling champions had been awarded a Rhodes Scholarship. Congratulations to Michael Noonan who was informed recently of this huge honour. Michael is completing a BSc in Honours Ecology and has a current Grade Point Average of 4.17 (A perfect GPA is 4.3). More information about Michael's award is available on this page. We also found out that another wrestling alum, Nikita Chicoine, had just been selected by the QFAE as their Woman Athlete of the Year. More information on Nikita's award is available on this page. Congratulations to Vanier wrestler Dorothy Yeats (far left) who won a Gold Medal in in the 67 Kg weight division and also was named Women's MVP at the University of Toronto Wrestling Invitational Tournament held on Saturday, November 19th. Dorothy previously won a Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Championships held in Australia on August 6th as well as the title of Best Women's Wrestler overall at that competition. Congratulations to our coach of the Division 1 Men's Basketball Cheetahs Andy Hertzog (seen at left with Sports Complex manager Linda Macpherson) who picked up his 500th victory last Friday night. Last year, Coach Hertzog led the team, currently ranked second in the country, to a national championship and with their current 6-0 record, they are are poised to go far this year as well. Our AAA Football Cheetahs played on Saturday evening in the provincial semi-finals and lost 35-14 against a domninant team from Vieux-Montreal. The Spartiates no doubt felt it was a measure of revenge for the loss they suffered to our Cheetahs in last year's Bol d'Or finals. It was just announced that Ben Millaud, a member of our current men’s Division 1 basketball team, has accepted a full scholarship to Saint Francis University, an NCAA Division 1 school located in Loretto, Pennsylvania. Ben will begin his career at Saint Francis next year, in the 2012-13 season. Ben follows in the footsteps of Vanier alum Deon George, who played for the Red Flash from 1991 through 1995 and was named twice to the Northeast All-Conference first team. Congratulations, Ben!

WRESTLERS STRIKE GOLD DOWN UNDER

Congratulations to Vanier wrestler Dorothy Yeats (far left) who won a Gold Medal in in the senior age group division at both the Commonwealth Championships and the Australian Cup held in Melbourne, Australia in Auugust 2011. Dorothy was also awarded the Outstanding Female Wrestler for both events! Vanier wrestler Vince De Marinis (at left) made us proud by winning a Gold Medal at the Australian Cup. AT ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET
JEROME AND SHELBY ARE ATHLETES OF THE YEAR
Congratulations to all the award winners at this year's Athletic Awards Banquet. The top honours went to Nationals Tournament MVP Jerome Blake and to the Lady Cheetahs' Shelby Eveleigh, both from our AAA basketball teams. Shelby's sister Katie Eveleigh won the Academic Achievement Award with an average of 97.6! For photos of all our award winners, Click for more.

VANIER RE-CAPTURES TITLE AT THE
2011 MCGILL INTRAMURAL FESTIVAL

After a one year drought, Vanier took back the title of Champions at the 39th Annual McGill Intramural Festival played on April 8th. This is Vanier's third Championship title in four years. All six English Cégeps enjoyed a fun evening of friendly competition in Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton and Dodgeball. VANIER WRESTLERS WIN GOLD AND SILVER MEDALS
AT CANADIAN JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Congratulations to Greg Rossy (far left) and Dorothy Yeats (to his right) and Jordan Lee Byer who all won medals at the Junior Wrestling Nationals which ran in Edmonton from March 24-27. Meanwhile, twin Golds Medals also went to Vanier wrestling alumni Martine Dugrenier and David Tremblay at the Senior Canadian Championships. Click for more.

AAA MEN WIN GOLD!!

The AAA Men's Basketball Cheetahs completed an upset of epic proportions by defeating Lethbridge 102-85 in the finals of the CCAA National Championships played on Saturday night. For a second time in a row, the Vanier Player of the Game was Jerome Blake who scored 32 points and was named Tournament MVP. Congratulations to Coach Hertzog and the entire team! Click for more.

AAA MEN ADVANCE TO
FINALS AT NATIONALS!

Our men’s AAA basketball team won yet again at the CCAA National Championships in Oshawa, defeating the Mount St. Vincent University Mystics 70-65 on Friday thus setting themselves up for Vanier's first run at the National Championship since they played (and defeated) Dawson in 1987. The Vanier Player of the Game was Jerome Blake who scored 24 points in this very important victory. Go Cheetahs! Click for more.

AAA MEN BEAT NAIT AT NATIONALS
March 17, 2011
Our men’s AAA basketball team played their first game at the CCAA National Championships in Oshawa and ended up pulling off a HUGE upset by defeating NAIT, the 2nd ranked team in the country, by the score of 75-73. The Vanier Player of the game was Ben Millaud who scored 20 points in this tremendous win. Go Cheetahs! Click for more.

SHELBY EVELEIGH SELECTED FOR CCAA ALL-CANADIAN TEAM
March 17, 2011

Congratulations to Shelby Eveleigh (left), captain of our AAA Women's Basketball team. She was honoured by being selected for the CCAA All-Canadian team at a banquet on Wednesday evening.

Shelby helped lead the Lady Cheetahs to a 18-2 record in the regular season and a Bronze Medal at the Provincial Playoffs. She was also an RSEQ first all-star team member. Way to go, Shelby! Click for more.

The AAA Men's Basketball Cheetahs crowned an excellent regular season by sweeping their games at the provincials to take home the coveted title and a guaranteed trip to the Nationals in Oshawa starting March 17th. On Monday, it was announced that our very own Lenny Austin (left) was named CCAA player of the week. Lenny has been playing a major role all season in leading the AAA Men's Basketball Cheetahs to an 8-2 record and sole possession of 1st place in the Quebec AAA Men's Basketball league. FOOTBALL CHEETAHS PROMINENT AT LEAGUE AWARDS BANQUET
JÉRÉMI ROCH WINS PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD
December 13, 2010
To cap off a tremendously successful championship season, it was no surprise that members of our football team captured the highest number of awards at the league's Awards banquet held on Saturday, December 11th. Besides Jérémi Roch's big win as the league's Player of the Year, no fewer than eight other players won awards along with Peter Chryssomalis and his team who won Coaching Staff of the Year. CHEETAHS ALUMNI IN GREY CUP

No fewer than five former Cheetahs were part of the 2010 Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes roster, four of them repeat winners from last year. We also had a repeat winner in Jean-Marc Edme of the Als management team.

VANIER WRESTLING COACH WINS ANOTHER AWARD

Congratulations to Victor Zilberman who has been awarded a Petro Canada Coaching Excellence Award for a record 10th time. His award was announced in a recent Press Release issued by the Coaching Association of Canada. He formally received the award in a ceremony held in Ottawa. Congratulations, Victor! CHEETAHS BRING HOME BOL D'OR!

Our beloved Football Cheetahs won a tight-collar 31-28 victory over our longtime nemesis, the Spartiates of Cégep Vieux-Montréal to reclaim the provincial championship Bol d'Or on Saturday in Lennoxville. Matthew Norzil had 3 receptions for 99 yards, 2 of them for touchdowns. Alexandre Piché also had an excellent game with 4 pass receptions for a total of 124 yards and 2 TDs. QB Benoit Lacasse threw 4 TD passes and was named Player of the Game. Congratulations to Coach Peter Chryssomalis and to the entire team for another great season. Click for more.

RUGBY LEAGUE ANNOUNCES
CHEETAH ALL-STAR CHOICES

November 18, 2010

Congratulations to (seen clockwise from above left) Rachel Hocquart, Rebecca McWhirter, Christian Bouchard and James Byrne who were just named as members of this year's Rugby All-Star team.

Both of our Men's and Women's Rugby teams made it to the playoffs this year. The men had a record of 3-4, good for 4th place in the league while the Ladies had a record of 3-3 and finished in 3rd place.

Both teams were eliminated in the semi-finals by traditionally-strong John Abbott College.

Our Football Cheetahs defeated Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars in the provincial semi-finals on Saturday. QB Jérémi Roch completed 22 passes for 291 yards and 1 touchdown. The team will now face Vieux-Montréal this Saturday, Nov. 13th at 13:00 at Coulter Field at Bishop's U in Sherbrooke for the provincial championship Bol d'Or. Click for more.

WRESTLING ALUM AND VANIER TEACHER MARTINE DUGRENIER WINS 3RD STRAIGHT WORLD TITLE

Martine Dugrenier (left) was able to pull off the storied "three-peat" by winning gold for a 3rd straight time at the Senior World Wrestling Championships held this year in Moscow. She defeated Elgiza Anarbekova from Kazakhstan in the finals to take the victory. You can click to find out more.

ARCHAMBAULT NAMED GAZETTE'S
AMATEUR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

September 1, 2010

Congratulations to the Football Cheetahs' Defensive Captain Byron Archambault (left) who was the subject of an article by Arpon Basu in the Montreal Gazette of September 1st subsequent to his being named their Amateur Athlete of the Week. In 2008, Byron won the league Rookie of the Year honours and was also second in the league in tackles. Last year, he was again second in the league in tackles and then went on to be named the league's Defensive MVP. Find out more.

VANIER WRESTLING COACH WINS MAJOR GRANT

Congratulations to Victor Zilberman who has been awarded a $10,000 grant to help current world champion (and Vanier Phys Ed teacher) Martine Dugrenier prepare for the 2012 Olympics in London. AAA WOMEN CAPTURE BRONZE AT PROVINCIALS
AAA MEN'S TEAM LOSES OT THRILLER TO DAWSON

March 8, 2010

After winning their quarter-final match on Friday, our AAA Lady Basketball Cheetahs rebounded from a tough loss in the semi-finals to Ste-Foy on Saturday to win the Bronze Medal match VS Montmorency on Sunday. The AAA Men's season ended when they lost 85-83 in OT to Dawson in their quarter-final match Friday. Click for more.

As assistant therapist for the Als, Max Hanna, Vanier Cheetahs Head Athletic Therapist had 24 hours to show the cup which he did in G-204 on January 12th. The Cup revisited Vanier during UB on Wed, Jan. 27th at the gym with several Alouettes also in attendance including Cheetah alumni Danny Desriveaux and Shawn Mayne, as well as Max Hanna and others.
