Job Opportunities for Graduates

Employment opportunities for Animal Health technologists include private clinics, research and pharmaceutical facilities, government, hospital and university laboratories, animal shelters, pet shops and public hygiene departments.

Some technical duties expected of Animal Health Technicians are:

  • Caring for hospitalized patients
  • Restraint and administration of prescribed medications and other treatments
  • Performing clinical tests in hematology, biochemistry, urinalysis, parasitology, etc
  • Taking radiographies
  • Giving instructions to clients / animal owners
  • Assistance in anesthesia and surgery
  • Dental prophylaxis
  • Hospital management
  • Management of laboratory animal facilities

The Animal Health laboratories provide hands on experience with small domestic animals, exotic animals and laboratory animals.
